After their recent struggles have seemingly drained Taylor Jenkins’s squad, the Grizzlies head into this battle with a prime opportunity to right their wrongs and find themselves back in the win column. Dallas has been shorthanded over the last month, losing Anthony Davis in his debut, and now, with Kyrie Irving ruled out for the season, Jason Kidd is digging deep into his depth down the back half of the season. Although the Mavs will be on their home court, I expect the Grizzlies to come out as the aggressor and steal a big win on the road.

At their best, both teams have the firepower to hit the over on the 239-point set total easily. However, neither squad is expected to be in full health, and considering the Mavericks struggle to score without their best players on the court, it’s hard to put any faith in these squads to have a shootout. Zach Edey enters this matchup, averaging 7.8 rebounds on the season. Lately, the Purdue product has been utilized more down the stretch as Jaren Jackson Jr. recovers from injury. Although Edey hasn’t hit the double rebound mark in a few games, he seems due for a monster night on the boards soon, and against a Mavs squad missing their best big man, it won’t be a shock to see Edey play a significant role on the glass tonight.

With Irving out, newcomer Max Christie has been inserted in the starting lineup, and he’s proved to be the most underrated piece acquired in the Mavericks blockbuster trade ahead of the trade deadline. The sharpshooter is averaging 12.9 points since joining Dallas, and his confidence following the fresh start has looked to be at an all-time high. If the Mavericks hope to keep pace with the Grizzlies, they’ll have to rely on their depth pieces to step up, and I’ll take the odds that Christie will.
