NBA Finals SGP: +1500 Dallas Mavericks @ Boston Celtics

Game 5 of the NBA Finals is set for tonight as the Boston Celtics aim to claim their franchise’s 18th NBA championship over the Dallas Mavericks back in Boston. After dominating the first three games of the Finals, Boston laid an egg in Game 4, losing by 36 points in rather embarrassing fashion. However, back in their own building, they should relish the opportunity to win it all in front of their home crowd as 6.5-point favorites.

Leg 1: Celtics ML
Game 4 was the worst game that the Boston Celtics played all postseason, and likely across the past few months. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. Still, up 3-1 in the Finals and heading back home shouldn’t cause panic for these Celtics, who view themselves as the best team in basketball. It’s never good to play with your food, but I expect the Celtics to want to finish off the Dallas Mavericks tonight and celebrate their 18th banner in front of their home crowd. They know that if they have to board a plane back to Dallas for Game 6, things could start to get dangerous, so I don’t imagine that they would let that happen.
Legs 2 & 3: Jayson Tatum 25+ Points, 5+ Assists
If we just forgot about the Game 4 disaster, Jayson Tatum had himself an impressive Game 3, dropping 31 points as he quieted all the critics who claimed he was being “carried" by a superteam in Games 1 & 2. Looking at tonight, in a similar fashion to Game 3, I don’t think Tatum wants to be viewed as a “non-factor" as the Celtics ideally clinch the championship. Knowing he’ll take over 20 shots, in all likelihood, he’ll have every opportunity to break the 25-point threshold. We’re rather comfortable expecting him to give us at least five for his assists, as he accomplished that feat in 11 of 12 games before Game 4.
Leg 4: Derrick White 3+ Threes
Derrick White has averaged 8.8 attempts from beyond the arc this series, knocking down at least three threes in three of four games. Back home, he’ll have the green light and will have the momentum behind him from the crowd to knock down at least three shots from deep.
Legs 5 & 6: Jaylen Brown 20+ Points, 4+ Rebounds
Jaylen Brown is currently the favorite for Finals MVP, and with any sort of respectable performance tonight, the award is his. He combined for at least 20 points and four rebounds in the first three games of this series, so we’ll trust he can get back to that level of production at home tonight.
Leg 7: Al Horford 5+ Rebounds
Before the Game 4 disaster, Al Horford managed to grab at least five rebounds in 16 of 17 games overall this postseason. That’s good enough for me!
Legs 8 & 9: PJ Washington Jr. 10+ Points, 5+ Rebounds
PJ Washington Jr. had himself a brutal Game 4 performance, despite the Mavs clinching the victory, as he managed to pile up four fouls in just 14 minutes of action. However, in games this postseason where he has played his normal workload, he has combined for at least ten points and five rebounds in 17 of 20 games. He’s an important piece of the Mavs, so they can’t afford him to be a non-factor on the road tonight.
Leg 10: Dereck Lively II 7+ Rebounds
Dereck Lively II has been huge for the Mavericks this entire postseason, but more specifically, in Games 3 & 4, he shined in his minutes. In Game 3, he played 31 minutes, earning himself a larger workload with a 13-rebound performance ahead of Game 4. He would have played at least 30 minutes in Game 4 if it wasn’t a blowout, but he managed to grab 12 rebounds in 22 minutes. We are just looking for him to give us seven tonight, so we expect he can get it done.
