Clemson vs. Georgia Best Bet ATS: Georgia -12.5
One of the premier games in Week 1 pits the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs against the No. 14 Clemson Tigers. Heisman contender Carson Beck is returning for Georgia, quarterbacking the team at Mercedes Benz Stadium. The Bulldogs are favored by nearly two touchdowns, a line that has remained relatively consistent since opening. Both teams have claimed four of the past eight national titles between them. It might take a while for both offenses to find their groove, leading us to favor the team with the superior defensive capabilities in talent and execution—clearly, the Bulldogs in this scenario. The 2021 encounter between these squads was a closely contested, low-scoring game. While a similar outcome wouldn’t be surprising, Georgia’s robust arsenal and Kirby Smart’s tactical acumen should help them comfortably cover the spread. The line has been slightly bet down in favor of Clemson, dropping from -13.5 to -12.5. Even with some money coming in on Clemson, we still like the Dawgs’ to come out howling on Saturday.
Clemson vs. Georgia Best Bet Total: UNDER 48.5 (-110)
Some critical weapons on offense will likely dictate the pace in this matchup. These teams did not have many similarities when they last collided, but their overall philosophies remain primarily unchanged. The defense should be the story on Saturday, especially considering how early in the season it is. It will be difficult for Clemson to move the football with how Georgia’s defensive line matches up. We have much more faith in Beck showing up offensive than we do with Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik. The Bulldogs should be able to pressure Klubnik with an improved pass rush, making it hard for Clemson to muster up offense. Each side will also be content running the football, which should help milk even more of the clock, assuming one side doesn’t go down big early.
Clemson vs. Georgia Best Player Props
Georgia Wide Receiver Dominic Lovett OVER 51.5 Receiving Yards (-114)
The Bulldogs had some turnover in their wide receiver room this offseason, along with the graduation of Brock Bowers to the NFL. That leaves plenty of targets on offense for Carson Beck to throw to. One returning receiver is Dominic Lovett, who’s coming off a 54-catch season for 613 yards. Lovett is due for more targets and productivity this season, and the Tigers have some question marks in their secondary that need answering before we can fully respect it. Look for Lovett to be involved in Georgia’s gameplan early and often.
