Texas A&M Aggies Preview | Expert Predictions & Best Bets for 2024

Texas A&M Aggies Preview, Predictions & Season Win Total Pick

After the Texas A&M Aggies moved on from Jimbo Fisher, they hired Duke head coach Mike Elko to try and get the program back on track. Elko has plenty of talent to coach on this Aggies roster, highlighted by a defense that fits right into his skillset as a former defensive coordinator at this school. Can Elko help lead the Aggies back into contention in a loaded SEC in 2024?

Texas A&M Preview: Why You Should Be Bullish

It’s easy to get excited about the talent the Aggies boast on defense, paired with a defensive-minded head coach in Mike Elko. That premise alone will make life difficult for some of the top offenses in the country. Despite losing Walter Nolen in the transfer portal, the Aggies didn’t wait long to make a significant addition to plug that hole with Nic Scourton. The Aggies’ defense in 2024 should help keep them in plenty of football games.

Texas A&M Preview: Why You Should Be Bearish

Even though there are strong parts of the Aggie’s offensive line, the interior isn’t one of them. This could create some real issues for inexperienced starting quarterback Conner Weigman. Even with the high recruit status, Weigman brings to the table, he might have his work cut out for him if we see the same song and dance we did last year. Protecting the quarterback is already important enough, and it might become a big issue if some of the pieces inside don’t step up for the Aggies.

Texas A&M Breakout Player: QB Conner Weigman

We’ve seen Conner Weigman play small chunks during the beginning of his NCAA career, but a foot injury last season against Auburn cut his year short. If the Aggies have aspirations to surprise in the SEC and potentially make a run into contention for a College Football Playoff spot, they’ll need Weigman to play at the level he’s capable of. Overall, we’re very bullish on his talent level, and if he can get some moderate protection from his offensive line, the Aggies will be in good shape this season.

Texas A&M X-Factor: OT Trey Zuhn III

If the Aggies can’t move the football on offense, they’ll need to prioritize the development of their offensive line. Trey Zuhn III brings experience as the Aggies’ starting LT over the last two seasons. He’s done a solid job in that role and is one of the country’s more robust returning offensive tackles. The development of Weigman as a starting quarterback will go a lot smoother if Zuhn III continues to give him time in the pocket.

Texas A&M Aggies Schedule Analysis

It won’t be a run of death row opponents like some teams have in the SEC this season, but there are some challenging opponents on the Aggies’ schedule in 2024. The Aggies will kick things off with a showdown under the lights on Aug.31 against No.7 Notre Dame. The Aggies will host No.11 Missouri on Oct. 5 and No. 20 LSU on Oct. 26. Texas A&M will close out their 2024 regular season on Nov. 30, where they host N0. 4 Texas. With the strength of this defense and some reasons to be bullish about their offense, this isn’t an overly daunting schedule for the Aggies.

Texas A&M Prediction: OVER/UNDER 8.5 Wins

The books always know how to set the perfect line. There are eight games on the Aggies schedule in which they should be at least moderate favorites. We’ll have a good idea of where the Aggies stand nationally after their Week 1 showing against Notre Dame. The Aggies have the type of defense that can give other programs problems. Even with some slight juice on the number, we’ll ride with the over 8.5 wins for Texas A&M in 2024.

Texas A&M Aggies Best Bets

The Aggies will be an intriguing team to watch in 2024. If you’re bullish on them going over the number this season, there’s likely some value in backing them to make the CFB Playoff at +240
