College Football Best Bets: Boston College, Utah, Albama

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From SportsGrid College Football Today

Boston College, Iowa-Northwestern, Utah and Alabama Lead the Day’s Picks

Boston College is the pick at home despite losing 47-2 last week. The Eagles are getting seven points against a Florida State team dealing with major struggles and the departure of coach Mike Norvell. Interim coach Rick Stock inherits a defense that allowed 43 points to Miami and 36 to Clemson.

Florida State ranks 126th in total defense, 105th in scoring defense, 114th in pass defense and 112th in run defense. That creates an opportunity for Boston College and dual-threat quarterback Mason McKenzie, who has thrown for 1,500 yards and rushed for another 700 this season. He has the talent to take advantage of a Florida State defense that has struggled from the start. The pick is Boston College plus seven.

Another play is under 43.5 points in Iowa-Northwestern. The absence of Aiden Childs is considered more significant than the total suggests.

Utah minus four in the Holy War is the favorite bet of the day.

Alabama plus 6.5 is also a best bet. Kaylin DeBoer coming off a bye with that many points is too tempting to pass up. Keylon Russell is expected to play significantly better than he did at Tennessee. Alabama’s defense is most vulnerable through the air, but Sam Levitt may not play clean enough football to cover the number.
