Florida vs. Oklahoma: Gators Pick to Cover in the Swamp

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From SportsGrid College Football Today

Florida Favored to Cover Against Oklahoma in the Swamp

Florida enters its home matchup against Oklahoma as a 4.5-point favorite. The ranked Gators have earned respect with notable results against Ole Miss and Texas, while the Sooners have endured a difficult season.

Florida should win because it has the more talented roster and has played more consistently than Oklahoma. The Gators will also have the energy of the crowd in the Swamp. I will be at the game with my 12-year-old for his first game there. He has attended five Dolphins games, and the Dolphins are 5-0 in those contests, so the kid does not lose when he goes to games.

Oklahoma has the better defense, but its offense has struggled. Florida’s defense has also had problems, yet it held Georgia to 27 points last week despite giving the Bulldogs several short fields in a 27-8 loss.

This game should not be as high-scoring as some expect. Florida can hold Oklahoma and cover the small spread, but the Gators’ defense must show up or it could be a long night.

Oklahoma’s season has been difficult to evaluate because the Sooners entered with top-10 expectations. Matier’s injury changed the outlook, and he did not appear to be the same player after returning. There was a sense that the season could have been special if he had remained healthy. The loss to Michigan may have been forgiven, but the season has still fallen short of those expectations.
