Georgia vs. Ole Miss: Betting Preview and Under Pick

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From SportsGrid College Football Today

Georgia’s Defense Shapes Picks Against Ole Miss

Georgia’s road matchup with Ole Miss may be getting overlooked because it shares a time slot with Notre Dame and Miami, but it remains one of the day’s most compelling games. Georgia is favored by 3.5 points, with the total listed at 56.5.

The under at 56.5 is one approach to the matchup. Georgia has scored 24 points against Auburn, 20 against Alabama and 27 against Florida over its past three games, finishing comfortably below its team total each time. Ole Miss remains an electric offense, but Kawan Lacey has not been healthy, and the unit previously disappointed against Texas.

The recent history between Georgia and Ole Miss creates some concern about taking the under, as the teams combined for roughly 70 points in each of their past two meetings. However, Georgia’s defense is allowing fewer than 15 points per game and shut down Florida and Alabama offenses that entered those matchups ranked among the country’s top 10 in every category.

Georgia’s defense is also the primary reason to back the Bulldogs to cover on the road. The team slipped against Auburn after Gunner Stockton lost the ball several times, but there has otherwise been little to criticize. Georgia controlled Alabama despite allowing the game to remain close, while Florida hurt itself with turnovers, roughing the punter and other mistakes. Georgia could limit Ole Miss in the same way Texas did.

Stockton’s matchup with Chambliss also creates potential quarterback prop opportunities. Despite the under being appealing, both quarterbacks offer plus money to score a touchdown. Ole Miss has allowed rushing touchdowns to quarterbacks at a high rate, including scores by Byron Brown, Arch and Fio.

A loss would leave Ole Miss with little breathing room. Its remaining schedule includes games at OU, against Wofford and at home against Miss State, with Ole Miss expected to be favored in each. A 9-3 finish could leave the team firmly on the bubble, where it would be compared with other three-loss teams, two-loss Big 10 teams and one-loss teams from the Big 12 and ACC.
