Quarterback Competition
Heading into training camp in 2024, all signs pointed to Russell Wilson being the QB1 for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Not so fast. Although Justin Fields hasn't blown the doors off with his play in training camp, an early injury to Wilson has helped create a real competition. Wilson is set to start in Week 2 preseason action against the Buffalo Bills tonight, which should help give a clearer picture. If Wilson takes the ball and runs with it, he has a strong chance of heading into Week 1 of the regular season in Atlanta as the starting quarterback. If there are concerns, Fields might have another opportunity to stake his claim as the starter in Pittsburgh.
Rookie Making Immediate Impact
We saw Payton Wilson fall in the 2024 NFL Draft because of injury concerns. The Pittsburgh Steelers are already seeing the benefits of that with him playing a role on their defense in 2024. Wilson made his presence felt in Week 1 of the preseason against the Houston Texans, and he'll be looking to do the same thing when the Steelers host the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 action. Wilson has a real chance to be a key component for this Steelers defense in 2024. The Steelers continue to churn out talented defenders, and Wilson may just be next in line.
Zach Frazier Starting Center?
After selecting Zach Frazier in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers were going to give him every chance to earn the role of their starting center this season. With some injury concerns surrounding Nate Herbig, Frazier and his strong play in training camp might have just earned him a potential starting gig. Frazier already has the collegiate experience to step right in and help Pittsburgh's offensive line. There will be some growing pains, but Frazier is proving to be right up for the task.

Arthur Smith's Offense
It's already becoming very evident that Arthur Smith has helped changed the look and feel around the Pittsburgh Steelers offense. In recent memory, the Steelers have been allergic to play action, but that's simply no longer the case with Smith calling the plays. There are certainly some who have reservations about how Smith calls a football game, but he's already proving to be a major upgrade on what the Steelers have had in this role from a coaching perspective. Time will tell if it makes a tangible difference in the regular season.
