5. Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers got a little wake-up call this past Sunday in the form of a 43-13 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who welcomed Baker Mayfield back to the field. The Panthers still control their own destiny in the NFC South. However, Week 7 was a reminder that despite their early success, they still have plenty of work to do.
1. Baltimore Ravens
Nobody expected the Ravens to look like world beaters without Lamar Jackson. But their struggles on defense are alarming. They now sit in last place in the AFC North at 3-4, and rookie head coach Jesse Minter is facing harsh criticism. Baltimore was one of the Super Bowl favorites coming into this season. Through the first seven weeks, they look as ordinary as anyone.
2. New England Patriots
There is no shame in losing a primetime game on the road to the Chicago Bears, who could very well be in the NFC Championship Game this year. However, it was another reminder of how much work this team still needs to get to where they want to go. The Patriots now sit at 4-3 and have already matched their loss total from last season. Even with A.J. Brown returning from IR, the offense is still struggling with consistency. They could very well find their form soon, but as of now, they are still slightly overrated.
3. Las Vegas Raiders
After a dream-like start, the Las Vegas Raiders have now lost four in a row and have fallen below.500 for the first time this season. Many fans and talking heads were quick to put them right in the thick of the AFC West race with the Chiefs and Broncos. Fast-forward four weeks, and Klint Kubiak is now considering going with Fernando Mendoza as the starting QB for the rest of the way. While this could ignite them, we as fans have overrated who the Raiders were with Kirk Cousins.
4. Houston Texans
After rattling off two consecutive victories heading into Week 7, the Houston Texans looked like they were following last season's script: starting slow and essentially running the table the rest of the way. The Texans were the biggest favorites on the Week 7 slate, but they lost outright to J.J. McCarthy and the New York Giants. This loss for Houston was a harsh reminder of their flaws and potentially overrated defense.
