The New York Giants made one of the boldest moves of the 2025 NFL Draft, trading back into the first round to select quarterback Jaxson Dart out of Ole Miss with the No. 25 overall pick. The deal with the Houston Texans sent picks No. 34, 99, and a 2026 third-rounder to Houston, allowing the Giants to secure their quarterback of the future.

Dart, a three-year starter in Oxford, holds school records for total offense and career passing yards. He also tallied 28 career wins—more than any other starting QB in Ole Miss history. Despite concerns about his consistency in big games, Dart impressed at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine, improving his stock into late first-round territory.

While the Giants added veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason, the move for Dart signals a clear plan for succession. With head coach Brian Daboll, known as one of the NFL’s premier quarterback developers, New York hopes to groom Dart into a franchise signal-caller.

This makes Dart the second quarterback selected in the 2025 draft, following Cam Ward at number 1. Although Shedeur Sanders was rumored to go in this range, the Giants pounced first—possibly jumping ahead of other quarterback-needy teams.

This double-first-round haul of Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart gives New York two cornerstone pieces to build around heading into 2025. Dart may not start Week 1, but with Wilson under pressure to perform, the rookie could see the field sooner than expected.
