Giants vs. Jets Predictions | NFL Picks Today, Best Bets

We are nearing the conclusion of the NFL preseason as teams get ready to finalize their rosters ahead of the regular season. The New York Giants and New York Jets have spent the past week practicing together, taking to the field one last time before paring down their respective rosters. Both teams have decisions to make, amplifying the stakes ahead of Saturday night’s clash at the MetLife Stadium.

Giants vs. Jets NFL Best Bet ATS: Giants -2.5

While both teams have decisions concerning roster adjustments to start the season, there’s much more at stake for the Giants in Saturday’s battle. The Jets have noted that starters won’t play in the preseason finale, giving the Giants an edge that has not yet been reflected in the betting odds. While there will be no shortage of effort from the Jets’ backup players looking to crack the roster, it won’t be enough to knock the Giants off their stride.

Giants vs. Jets NFL Best Bet Total: Under 31.5

To this point in the preseason, neither team has impressed offensively. The Giants have mustered just 24 points through two preseason games, totaling a minuscule 529 total yards. While the Jets have fared slightly better in output, their offensive production has been less than stellar. They barely eclipsed 200 yards in last week’s battle against the Carolina Panthers, mustering 85 passing and 117 rushing yards in the contest. Consequently, this battle for New York figures to come in below 31.5 points.

Jets Offensive Player To Watch: Braelon Allen, RB

Breece Hall enters the campaign as the bell cow on offense, looking to recapture his rookie season form from 2022. However, the Jets are looking for a complementary back to shoulder some of the offensive burden and minimize Hall’s risk of injury. The Jets thought they had the running back to offload some of those carries, drafting Braelon Allen in the fourth round of last year’s NFL Draft. But with just 27 yards on eight carries last week, Allen still has something to prove. The Wisconsin Badgers’ product can use Saturday’s showdown to cement himself as the No. 2 option behind Hall.

Jets Defensive Player to Watch: Will McDonald IV, DL

Drafted 15th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Will McDonald IV failed to make an impact in his rookie season with the Jets. The hulking defensive lineman registered just 14 total tackles and 3.0 sacks while serving as a backup throughout the season. Playing behind Jermaine Johnson on the depth chart, McDonald has much to prove ahead of the regular season. The Iowa State product has made an impression against the Panthers, recording a sack in the win, but he has yet to validate the Jets’ confidence in taking him in the first round of the draft. McDonald could be a wrecking ball as he fights to move up the depth chart.

Giants Offensive Player to Watch: Tommy DeVito, QB

Tommy DeVito figures to see the bulk of the action under center for the Giants. The local product impressed when called upon last season, throwing eight touchdowns to three interceptions across nine contests (six starts) while completing 64.0% of his passes. DeVito is vying for a spot on the 53-man roster, looking to insulate the quarterback position behind the injured Drew Lock. Saturday is his last chance to make a good impression, and we like DeVito’s chances of making his mark.

Giants Defensive Player to Watch: Elijah Chatman, DL

A battle is brewing on the Giants’ defensive line, with Elijah Chatman and Casey Rogers fighting for the starter’s role as the defensive end. As it stands, Chatman appears to have the inside track in securing the gig, but he should use the final preseason showdown to solidify his position. Chatman recorded a tackle and a sack in the preseason opener, following that up with another tackle against the Houston Texans last week. Playing against the Jets backups on Saturday night, we expect him to make his presence felt every time he steps onto the field.
