Cowboys and Eagles Face Major Questions in Wide-Open NFC East
The NFC East remains wide open, but the Dallas Cowboys continue to squander opportunities. Their loss to the Cardinals was unacceptable after they surrendered a multi-score lead at home against backup quarterback Gardner Minshew.
Dallas has major questions to answer in the secondary and across the defense. Dak Prescott should also face scrutiny over the offense’s performance, particularly after the lofty expectations expressed during the offseason.
There are also doubts about Brian Schottenheimer as a play caller and offensive designer. However, the Cowboys’ biggest issue remains their defense. Tyler Allgeier was able to break free for 60-yard touchdowns through massive holes, highlighting the problems on the back end.
Despite their losses, the Cowboys remain in the divisional race because the NFC East is still there for the taking. As Troy Aikman said during the Monday Night Football broadcast, there comes a point when a team simply has to win these games and get the job done.
The Philadelphia Eagles are dealing with their own problems. For the first time in 17 years, the New York Giants will enter Philadelphia as a road favorite.
Injuries have ravaged the Eagles’ roster. They have lost their starting quarterback, Saquon for weeks, both starting wide receivers and defensive players. Regardless of a team’s talent, losing that many players eventually takes a toll.
Beyond the injuries, there are concerns about the heart of the team and the construction of the roster. Those concerns extend to Nick Sirianni, who may not be the right head coach for Philadelphia moving forward. Winning the Super Bowl bought him time, but questions remain about whether he is a true leader whom players want to follow.
With Dallas struggling defensively and Philadelphia battling injuries and leadership concerns, both teams face significant questions as the NFC East race continues.
