Lions Favored Over Dolphins as Jared Goff’s Passing Prop Draws Interest
Credit the Lions for their big win over the Vikings last week. They played the Vikings’ game and beat them at it, which was unexpected. That performance makes Detroit a significant favorite against Miami.
The Dolphins have done a good job covering spreads, but several of those results came through backdoor covers against teams such as Washington and New England. Miami was thoroughly outplayed by New England in the second half last week, although keeping the game close in the first half created an opportunity to score late. Its overall record against the spread remains solid.
Miami may win only one or two more games, while Detroit might not be as good as its record indicates. With beautiful weather in South Florida and the total at 50.5, there could be plenty of points. Detroit should not be responsible for all of them, as Miami could also contribute offensively.
Still, Miami’s second-half performance last week makes the Dolphins difficult to support. Laying 6.5 points with Detroit is not especially appealing either, particularly with the possibility that last week’s game could have a residual effect on the Lions.
Jared Goff is not the same quarterback on the road, even in good weather, as he is indoors. However, his passing prop over 261.5 yards is attractive. He has failed to surpass that number only twice: in Week 1 and last week against the aggressive Minnesota Vikings defense.
Goff should benefit from having a healthy Aman Rassain Brown available. Jason Williams is also becoming involved differently. Previously known as a big-play threat, he is being used more in the red zone this season by Drew Penzik. His role is developing, and he is becoming more reliable after finishing as a top-20 wide receiver in each of the past three weeks.
Fantasy managers should start their key players in this game. For Miami, Ollie Gordon is a must-start option, Caleb Douglas is in play, and Dulcich could help managers who are desperate at tight end.
Detroit’s secondary became healthier last week, and the improvement showed. This is a favorable matchup for the Lions, who should win handily. Goff is also positioned for a strong performance and should exceed 261.5 passing yards.
