Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Game Time Decisions
Jacoby Brissett Could Help the Ravens Remain Competitive
The details of the Ravens’ move for Jacoby Brissett had not been finalized, and the compensation was still unknown. A fifth-round pick was suggested as a possible price, though that was only a guess. Baltimore would also have to take on Brissett’s contract, which was described as backup-quarterback money.
Brissett could be a practical option if Lamar is unavailable or leaves. His performance with Arizona showed that he can keep games interesting, and Baltimore may have a stronger supporting cast around him. The Ravens have a better defense, while Zay Flowers was compared favorably with Wilson. That could prevent Brissett from constantly having to play from behind.
Surroundings matter for a quarterback. With the right pieces and system, Brissett could keep Baltimore competitive, although expectations should remain measured. A 9-8 finish was viewed as plausible, but probably not enough to reach the postseason.
The rivalry with Pittsburgh also factors into the decision. Ravens-Steelers games were described as the most important matchups on their schedules, typically close contests that come down to a late kick. Baltimore cannot afford to be embarrassed in that game, and Brissett could give the team a better chance to compete.
If Brissett plays reasonably well, he could also soften the impact of a potential rebuild if Lamar leaves. Derrick Henry is getting older, and questions remain about what Baltimore’s offense would look like beyond Zay Flowers. The defense, however, was still considered strong.
At 4-4, the Ravens were facing a difficult path. A loss in their next game would leave them at 4-5, making a 9-8 finish tougher to achieve, with 8-9 also appearing possible.
