Texans vs. Chargers Odds, Picks and C.J. Stroud Bet

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From NFL Pro Football Today

Chargers’ Struggles and Defensive Injuries Create an Opportunity for C.J. Stroud

The Houston Texans and Los Angeles Chargers are heading into a matchup with a rare 5.5-point spread and a low total of 40.5. Houston has been one of the NFL’s worst defensive teams, while the Chargers remain winless and have yet to cover a spread this season.

Although backing the Chargers has become difficult, it is hard to imagine them going the entire season without covering. They also have upcoming games against the Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas Raiders that could provide opportunities.

Houston enters this game with an enormous need to win. The Texans still have a narrow path to the playoffs, but they must remain relevant by taking advantage of this matchup.

The Chargers’ defensive injuries could be decisive. Perryman is doubtful, Derwin James has gone on injured reserve, Bud Dupree dealt with an illness and Cleo Mack was resting during the week, although he practiced in full and is on track to play.

The preferred angle is C.J. Stroud to throw for more than 251.5 yards. He has been among the league leaders in passing yards, and Houston’s running game has not worked this season. With the Chargers depleted defensively, Stroud could attack a secondary that is vulnerable because of its health issues.

His production could come through Nico Collins, Tank Dell in an elevated role with Jalen Noll out, Marvin Harrison Junior or Dalton Schultz. Regardless of the target, Stroud should have opportunities to throw frequently.

Meanwhile, Mike McDaniels continues to face criticism each week and is now moving to the booth. He has become one of the NFL’s most discussed coordinators on a losing team.
