The Anaheim Ducks start a three-game road trip in Canada tonight against the Vancouver Canucks.
Anaheim, now 6-7-1, is coming off a dominant 6-3 win agains the Ottawa Senators. The Ducks fell behind 3-0 early then went on to score six consecutive goals. It was a vital comeback victory for the Ducks, who had previously lost seven of their last eight.
Cutter Gauthier netted his first hat trick of the season in the win and Leo Carlsson picked up three assists. Judd Caulfield added two goals and an assist of his own. Roger McQueen deposited the Ducks' final goal – the second of his young career.
The Ducks hosted the Canucks on Oct. 27, dropping the game 6-5 in overtime. Prior to the third period of that game, the Ducks led 4-1 and dominated the front lines. The Ducks led 5-2 with less than five minutes left, then surrendered three goals in about six minutes.
Ducks' starting goaltender Lukas Dostal has struggled mightily in his last few starts – giving up 20 goals in his last five games. As a result, the Ducks elevated Laurent Brossoit and are carrying three goaltenders on the roster.
The Ducks' offense has picked up their lackluster offense, scoring 22 goals in their last four games.
First Pick: Leo Carlsson over 0.5 points
Rundown: This will continue to be the pick so long as Carlssons' line stays under one. Carlsson is, at a minimum, a point-per-game player this season. He has 21 points in 14 games so far – which is 1.5 points per game. He has 10 points in his last four games, including two points in the last matchup with the Canucks. The Canucks are not a good defensive team either – which opens up a prime opportunity for Carlsson to continue his dominant stretch.
Second Pick: Cutter Gauthier over 0.5 points
Rundown: Gauthier has been on a heater. He has five goals and two assists in his last four games. He had previously endured a stretch of seven games in which he only had one point and no goals. Now that he's over the hump, he's scored five goals in his last two games. He also took 15 shots in the last two games. Gauthier is a high volume scorer who pairs very well with Carlsson on the top line. He's also the go-to power play bumper. The logic is the same here as it is with Carlsson – take the hot hand to continue their hot hand against a poor Canucks defense.
