Katie Meyer, Chucho Benítez and Their Lasting Legacies
I want to go more to the collegiate side, right? Katie Meyers was an incredible goalkeeper, the captain of Stanford. She made two, you know, really infamous penalty saves in 2019 to get Stanford that collegiate championship, and unfortunately in 2022 she committed suicide due to her mental health, and I think this was obviously a super sad, you know, something that happened in the college space, but it also brought. So much important attention to an awareness to the mental health of student athletes and I think that through her legacy we can remember the importance of mental health, which is also something that is a broader theme now for all athletes in all different leagues as Chiba has talked about it in the past. If you have any issues, please reach out to someone that you trust reach out to the hotlines that are available to you. Uh, you're not alone. Chiba, any other. Players that really taught you as you were, you know, deepening your ties to this beautiful sport, of course, man, even though, even though he played for America, I think Chucho Benitez was one player that, that, that brought a lot to Ligamekis, a player that, and Santos, he won championships, you know, he went to America, and man, when he was there it was very difficult for Mike Glores as Chivas to be in America. I think Chucho Benitez was a representation of a hardworking person, a very humble, uh, human being. And uh he went to Europe and unfortunately he's no longer with us but I think that his his representation on the field uh it's it's very important because he's a hardworking man that that taught a lot of kids that if you work every single day that you're professional about it you're gonna be able to um to to succeed and and and to become a legend at the end of the day.
