Liverpool F.C. manager Jurgen Klopp has been given a two-match touchline ban and fined $75,000 for comments made about referee Paul Tierney following the Reds’ 4-3 victory over Tottenham on April 30.
“I really don’t know what this man has with us," said Klopp post-match. “I really don’t know. He will always say there’s nothing – and it’s not true, it cannot be. I have to say. It cannot be, I don’t understand it. I’m really not sure if it’s me because he looks at me… I don’t understand."
Klopp, who admitted to questioning the referee’s integrity, will not be on the sidelines for his club’s final home game against Aston Villa on Saturday. The second match of the ban is suspended until the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, given that the 55-year-old does not repeat any breaches of FA rules.
Liverpool currently sits fifth in the Premier League with 65 points, one behind Newcastle and Manchester United.
