MLB All-Star Game MVP: Avoid Pitchers
In the rich history of the MLB All-Star Game, only a handful of pitchers have walked away as MVP. The latest to accomplish the feat was Shane Bieber back in 2019. Before that, Mariano Rivera was gifted the hardware in a 3-0 AL win in 2013. But those are the only two pitchers to win the award since the turn of the millennium. Moreover, they account for 25% of the eight pitchers to win the award since its inception in 1962.
Usually, with just one inning to work with, it’s unlikely any pitcher flaunts their skillset to warrant an MVP inclusion. We’re discarding the bunch and looking at a position player that can make a more indelible mark in the game.

Low-Scoring MLB All-Star Games
While most All-Star Games are premised on high-octane, high-scoring games, the MLB edition usually takes on a more subdued total. Pitchers come in fresh and mostly showcase their best stuff, albeit for a short period. Since 2008, only two games have totaled more than eight runs. Further, the average scoring margin across that stretch is a paltry 6.8 runs per game. Sportsbooks are wise to this trend, setting the total for the 2025 MLB All-Star game at an even 7.
Naturally, we have to target a run-producing hitter who will be a primary factor in scoring.
Perils of the Power Hitter
Some bettors may gravitate toward power hitters as the MVP, but recent history suggests otherwise. Jarren Duran won last year’s MLB All-Star Game MVP award. In 2023, Elias Diaz stole the show. While both players sent one out of the park, prototypical power hitters haven’t fared particularly well in recent seasons. Instead, contact hitters with a solid approach at the plate and underlying power metrics have experienced the most success. With that in mind, one player stands above the rest in this year’s class.
Pete Crow-Armstrong is a Prime MVP Bet
Currently listed at +1200 to win the MLB All-Star Game MVP, Pete Crow-Armstrong offers the most upside as this year’s MVP. PCA fits the mold as the modern-day MVP. He is a solid contact hitter with plus power that could be overlooked by opposing pitchers. The Chicago Cubs outfielder ranks above average with his .263 expected batting average and .352 expected weighted on-base average. Still, his .532 expected slugging percentage and 14.2% barrel rate put him in an elite class in terms of power.
Pete Crow-Armstrong has the ideal analytics profile to thrive in the MLB All-Star Game. At +1200, he’s worth backing to be an offensive catalyst for the National League side and take home this year’s MVP award.
