NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 Arkansas vs Texas Tech Odds, Best Bets

John Canady

Host · Writer

The Arkansas Razorbacks head into the Sweet 16 looking to continue their Cinderella run with an upset win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Thursday night. However, they’ll have their hands full with a Red Raiders team, which has championship aspirations of its own.

Arkansas enters this matchup with plenty of confidence after upsetting No. 2 seed St. John’s, and as they continue to get key players back from injury like Adou Thiero, John Calipari’s squad truly thinks they have what it takes to win a national championship. Meanwhile, Texas Tech has won each of its first two games in tournament play by double-digits, and with the versatility in Grant McCasland’s lineup, the Razorbacks could be in for a dogfight.

Arkansas vs Texas Tech Best Bet: Texas Tech -5.5

Texas Tech enters this matchup as the betting favorite, and after an impressive season, it’s easy to see why. The Razorbacks have plenty of hype around them following their first two upset wins up to this point, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that they were an inconsistent team during regular-season play, which included a 5-10 record against Quad 1 teams. On the flip side, the Red Raiders have a 10-5 record against Quad 1 teams. I don’t buy the hype that Arkansas can truly be a Cinderella run team, and I think their luck ends on Thursday at the hands of Texas Tech by more than six points.

Arkansas vs Texas Tech Best Total Bet: Over 148.5

Each of these squads has put together impressive scoring performances throughout the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Texas Tech averages 79.5 points per game through their first two wins, while the Razorbacks average 77 points per game. Assuming this trend stays the same, seeing this game end with a final score of 81-73 won’t be a shock.

Arkansas Best Player Bet: Johnell Davis Over 1.5 Threes Made +135

While Johnell Davis hasn’t been the most efficient scorer for the Razorbacks this season, it hasn’t stopped the guard from remaining aggressive for Arkansas. The senior isn’t shy about putting up shots, proving that with 13 three-point attempts through the team’s first two games. If Davis continues to shoot as aggressively as he has up to this point, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him knock down 2+ threes, especially considering he finished with four three-pointers in Round 1 against Kansas.

Texas Tech Best Player Bet: JT Toppin Over 1.5 Assists +165

JT Toppin has been the driving force for Texas Tech throughout the season, averaging 18.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists up to this point. The forward has been known to be a scorer. While his facilitating hasn’t been much of a talking point this year, he’s shown flashes of his ability to be a playmaker when opposing defenses look to limit his production. With 2+ assists in two of his last three games, I also like the odds that Toppin shares the ball in this matchup.
