Texas Longhorns
There have been some flashes for the Texas Longhorns this season. Many teams in the SEC have been upset by teams they should have beaten. Texas has an unblemished record besides a loss against Georgia. You have to give credit to the Longhorns for finding ways to win games. Still, I have some concerns about this team. In fairness to Texas, this could be a year without any "elite" teams.

Penn State Nittany Lions
I don't think the Penn State Nittany Lions are bad. However, what have they done to deserve sitting as the fourth-ranked team in the country? This is a good football team. Is it a great football team? Nothing on their resume to date suggests that. The Nittany Lions could prove me wrong with a home playoff date, but I'm skeptical at best.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish
I can't get the loss to Northern Illinois out of my head. That is Notre Dame's only blemish, but it's a large stain on their resume. The Fighting Irish have been a consistent threat outside of that, but it still gives me significant pause when I look at their ranking and think about the potential for a major stinker when the lights shine bright.

Miami Hurricanes
You can't question what the Miami Hurricanes do on offense. This is one of the top offenses in the country, headlined by a Heisman candidate in Cam Ward. Still, will the Hurricanes be able to outscore their defensive issues against some of the top competition in the country? My money's on no. This is an exciting team, but are they outstanding? I'm not so sure.

Boise State Broncos
Are we really going to hang our hats on a field goal loss to Oregon in September? This was at a stage in the year when the Ducks were still finding an identity. If you saw these teams face off again, I'd be shocked if it weren't a blowout. The Broncos have played far too many close games against lackluster teams for my liking.

Indiana Hoosiers
Before their blowout loss to Ohio State, the Indiana Hoosiers took care of business and had a perfect record. You must give yourself a puncher's chance when tasked with your most significant test of the year. The Hoosiers didn't do that in Week 13. It's hard to envision the Hoosiers making a run at a national championship with what we saw against Ohio State.
