Sykes, who averaged 15.4 points per game for Washington this season, should immediately help a Storm offense that ranks in the bottom half of the league, not to mention her elite skills defensively.

Acquired from the Dallas Wings, Carrington made an immediate impact for her new squad, scoring 13 points in just 18 minutes during Tuesday's victory over the Seattle Storm. Add her trademark defensive tenacity to Minnesota's already stout unit, and the league's best team got even better.

Some might see being traded to the league’s worst team as a setback, but for Aaliyah Edwards, it’s an opportunity. After averaging just 13.0 minutes per game this season with the Washington Mystics, the 2024 sixth-overall pick is poised for a larger role in Connecticut.

The Canadian native showed promise as a rookie, but an injury in this year’s training camp opened the door for 2025 first-rounder Kiki Iriafen to claim the starting power forward spot. That speaks more to Iriafen’s rise than any shortcomings from Edwards.

The talent is undeniable, and now Edwards will have the stage to prove it in her new colors.

Paige Bueckers has been a lone bright spot for an 8-22 Dallas Wings squad. In 24 appearances, the star rookie leads the team in points (18.6), assists (5.4), steals (1.8), and blocks (0.6) per game, fully living up to the hype as the No. 1 overall pick.

After sending DiJonai Carrington to the Minnesota Lynx, Dallas was reportedly in the market for an impact forward, but no move materialized in what turned out to be a quiet deadline for general manager Curt Miller. The franchise's best hope may now be landing the No.1 pick in next year's draft, where Bueckers' former UConn teammate Azzi Fudd will be available.

Until then, Buckers will continue shouldering the load.
