How Miami Can Upset Florida State: 5 Keys to Victory

If Miami is going to pull off the upset, they will very likely need to win a close game and make key plays in the fourth quarter. The Florida State Seminoles have the third-best fourth quarter defense in the country, allowing only 2.6 points per game in the final fifteen minutes. Miami will need to break that trend to win.
1. Get the Best Version of Tyler Van Dyke
Tyler Van Dyke has been spectacular before. The quarterback that played against Texas A&M and in parts of his freshman season will be needed to beat the No. 4 Florida State Seminoles. Van Dyke did not look healthy last week against NC State and his play suffered as Miami fell. He'll need to be great on Saturday.
2. Win the Turnover Battle
Mario Cristobal's team has had an issue with turnovers. The Hurricanes are just 106th in the country in turnover margin per game while Florida State is in the top 25. Miami absolutely has to win the turnover battle to have a chance for the upset.
3. Harass Jordan Travis
If Florida State's quarterback is allowed to stand comfortably in the pocket, he will pick the Miami defense apart. The Hurricanes have to pressure Jordan Travis and force him out of rhythm. Miami is 16th in the country with 3.1 sacks per game. They will need more than that on Saturday.
4. Dominate on the Ground
The Miami Hurricanes have a good stable of running backs, averaging five yards per carry. Florida State is not great against the run so the Hurricanes need to maximize that advantage. Grinding out five yards per carry keeps the chains moving for Miami and keeps the FSU offense on the sideline.
