Is There a Cut at the PGA BMW Championship?
Like last week’s St. Jude Championship, the BMW Championship does not have a traditional two-round cut. Instead, it resembles an elimination game in playoff sports. After the field was whittled down from the top 70 players to 50 in FedEx points a week ago, now only the top 30 will advance to next week’s Tour Championship. In PGA playoffs, it’s not the top 30 on the tournament’s leaderboard that moves on but the top 30 in season standings. That said, some players can move out of an elimination spot into the top 30 based on the FedEx points they earn at the BMW.

Another week, another $20 million purse. Following the payouts of St. Jude, the BMW also offers a giant $20 million total prize pool this year, with a nice $3.6 million chunk of change going to the winner. The top five basically become instant millionaires, if not already.
