Exploring Randal Grichuk of the Arizona Diamondbacks as a Fantasy Baseball Sleeper

Randal Grichuk: Can He Find Fantasy and Betting Value with the Arizona Diamondbacks?

The Betting Angle: Is Grichuk Worth a Sleeper Pick?

Grichuk isn’t on most fantasy draft boards, and his betting value is virtually nonexistent heading into 2025. With an ADP of 687, he’s essentially off the radar unless you’re in deep leagues or searching for an in-season waiver wire pickup. However, if you’re willing to take a shot on hidden value, Grichuk’s history suggests he can still be a useful depth piece, particularly in home run and RBI props throughout the season.

The issue? He doesn’t have a guaranteed role. The Arizona Diamondbacks’ outfield is crowded, meaning Grichuk will need an injury or a platoon role to gain relevance.

Path to Playing Time: What Needs to Happen?

Grichuk’s biggest roadblock in Arizona is playing time. Right now, he’s not in the starting outfield mix, which consists of:

  • Corbin Carroll – Locked in as a star.

  • Jake McCarthy – Solidified in the lineup.

  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. – A fixture in left field.

  • Pavin Smith (DH) – Likely to see significant at-bats.

At best, Grichuk might platoon at DH, but he’s on the wrong side of the platoon, meaning he’ll primarily face left-handed pitching. That limits his overall plate appearances and counting stats. The most realistic way he becomes fantasy relevant is if an injury occurs.

Power Potential: Can He Still Deliver?

Despite limited playing time in 2024, Grichuk still managed 12 home runs and 46 RBIs. He has always been a player who, given more at-bats, can produce respectable power numbers. If he somehow carves out 100+ games, a 20-home run season isn’t out of the question.

  • 2024 Stats: .265 AVG, 12 HR, 46 RBI (limited playing time)

  • Projected 2025 (with 100+ games): .260 AVG, 15-20 HR, 55+ RBI

While he won’t help in stolen bases, his batting average is solid for a power hitter, meaning he won’t tank that category if he gets at-bats.

Betting and Fantasy Value: Buy or Sell Grichuk?

Grichuk is strictly a speculative play. If an injury opens the door, he could quickly become a valuable streaming option in fantasy baseball and a strong bet for home run props when he’s in the lineup. Until then, he’s a wait-and-see candidate.

  • Buying: If you believe he’ll get a starting role due to injury or performance struggles from others.

  • Selling: If you don’t want to bet on an injury-dependent player with a limited role.

For now, Grichuk is off the radar, but he remains an intriguing sleeper if circumstances break his way in Arizona.
