Both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros are vying for Wild Card spots in each of their respective leagues, but tonight’s game will have even more excitement as Paul Skenes will be on the mound for the Buccos tonight. As a result, we worked up an ultimate same-game parlay for the action.

Leg 1: Pirates ML
It has been frustrating to watch Paul Skenes not get the run support from the Pirates’ offense, but we know every time Skenes takes the mound, he’ll put the Pirates in a great position to win the ball game. We’re not worried about the Pirates’ offense going cold against Jake Bloss of the Astros, so we’ll expect Skenes to do his thing and lead the Buccos to victory.
Leg 2: Paul Skenes 8+ Strikeouts
Paul Skenes has recorded at least eight strikeouts in eight of his last nine starts, and he’ll face the Astros, who have struck out collectively at a 23.1% clip over the past two weeks, a much higher mark than their season-long 18.7% rate. Given the Astros’ recent uptick, we can have much faith in Skenes to dominate.
Leg 3: Oneil Cruz 2+ Total Bases
Oneil Cruz has had himself a solid July as he’s posted a .306 batting average during the month with a solid .625 slugging percentage as he’s continued to crush against right-handed pitchers. The Astros will be throwing Jake Bloss on the mound who has struggled mightily this season, allowing a .379 batting average to opposing left-handed hitters. This is more than an optimal matchup for Cruz, so we’ll look for him to give us at least two total bases in some fashion.
Leg 4: Joshua Palacios 1+ Hit
We’ll continue to fade Jake Bloss against left-handed pitchers here with Joshua Palacios, who has only been in the majors for a month. While he’s just batting .237 since his call-up, Jake Bloss’s .379 opposing batting average against left-handed hitters is what we’ll ride with here.
Leg 5: Jose Altuve 1+ Hit
As much as we’re counting on Paul Skenes dominating, we won’t expect him to pitch a no-hit bid. He’ll give up some hits, and we’ll expect one of those to be to Jose Altuve, who is as pure of a hitter as they get, and he has recorded at least a hit in 19 of his last 21 games. That’s good enough for me!
