Red Sox Humiliate Yankees with Record-Breaking Base Stealing Spree

In a thrilling matchup on Sunday night, the Boston Red Sox secured a 9-3 victory over the league-leading New York Yankees, with key contributions from Zack Kelly and Connor Wong. Kelly pulled off a remarkable escape from a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the seventh inning, setting the stage for Wong’s clutch two-run triple in the bottom of the same frame.

The Red Sox showcased their aggressive base-running skills, setting a new club record with nine stolen bases, the highest in a major league game this season and the most surrendered by the Yankees since May 19, 1915. Leading the charge was David Hamilton, who swiped four bags. “Hammy kind of carried the load there," remarked Boston outfielder Jarren Duran, who added two steals of his own. “It just kind of shows when we can run the bases like we can, it does a lot for the team."

Hamilton’s base-stealing spree included second in the third inning, second and third in the fifth, and the record-setting steal of second in the eighth. Duran’s two steals added to the Yankees’ woes on the basepaths.

Despite a solo homer from Aaron Judge, his major league-leading 26th of the season, and another solo shot from Jose Trevino, the Yankees (50-24) couldn’t keep pace with Boston’s dynamic offense and opportunistic base running. Judge acknowledged the Red Sox’s effective strategy: “They were able to get on base and then once they were on, they got into scoring position. They capitalized when they got guys in scoring position. They were able to do it all night."

Boston’s starting pitcher, Kutter Crawford (3-6), delivered a solid performance, matching his career-high with nine strikeouts. He allowed three runs on three hits and a walk over six innings, providing a strong foundation for the Red Sox’s victory.

Following a loss in the series opener, the Red Sox rallied to take the next two games, giving Fenway Park its first consecutive sellout crowds of the season plenty to cheer about. The win not only showcased Boston’s resilience but also highlighted their ability to disrupt even the best teams with aggressive base running and timely hitting.
