The Indiana Pacers face elimination against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 of the 2025 NBA Finals, and all eyes are on the status of their All-Star guard, Tyrese Haliburton. ESPN’s Shams Charania provided a key update Thursday morning, reporting that Haliburton is “fully intending to be out there tonight. He’s going to gut it out.” How effective he will be is another story entirely.

Despite the optimism, it’s hard to ignore how limited Haliburton has looked lately. In Game 5, the 24-year-old logged over 30 minutes but failed to make a single field goal, finishing with zero steals, zero blocks, three turnovers, and three fouls—an unprecedented stat line in NBA Finals history. He was visibly laboring on his strained left calf, lacking his usual explosiveness and mostly camping out beyond the arc.
Haliburton’s lateral quickness and downhill aggression were essentially nonexistent in the second half of Monday’s game. He appeared to be a liability on both ends of the floor and failed to score a bucket in 34 minutes.
The Pacers have little choice but to throw Haliburton back into the fire with their season on the line. However, it’s unclear how many productive minutes he can give them. Veteran backup TJ McConnell has been effective in stretches and could see extended time if Haliburton’s movement remains severely restricted.
While Haliburton is expected to suit up, don’t expect a heroic performance. Instead, expect Indiana to lean more heavily on players like Aaron Nesmith, who’s been hot from deep, and rely on ball movement and defense to keep Game 6 competitive.
