5. NBA Draft
Jamir Watkins is in the NBA Draft and has the tools to be an exciting prospect for scouts. He is 6’7”, has good length, and shot nearly 35% from three. The 2024 NBA Draft is considered incredibly weak, perhaps one of the three worst drafts of the past 25 years. Fringe players like Watkins might be tempted to stay in the draft if they can do well in a couple of workouts. While Watkins is not a lethal three-point shooter yet, he has the tools to turn into a good “three and D” wing in the league, and that might be enough for this draft class to get selected. If Watkins does not find NIL deals he likes, staying in the draft is a real possibility.
1. Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Jamir Watkins began his collegiate career at Virginia Commonwealth University and transferred to Florida State for the 2023-2024 season. As a Seminole, he earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors and averaged 15.6 points and six rebounds per game, shooting 34.4 percent from three. After a frustrating season in Tallahassee, Watkins is back in the transfer portal and put his name into the NBA Draft. The 6’7” wing is originally from Trenton, New Jersey, and returning to his home state to finish his collegiate career would make a lot of sense. Rutgers has a pair of five-star freshmen coming in, but they have lost a lot of talent in a transfer portal exodus. They could desperately use some veteran talent to shepherd the incoming freshmen and help harness their potential.

2. Seton Hall Pirates
Seton Hall head coach Shaheen Holloway is a rising star in the profession, and the Pirates are coming off of an NIT Championship. Still, Seton Hall lost a lot of talent this offseason. Jamir Watkins could have a starring role at the New Jersey school and showcase his versatile offensive game with a high usage rate as a forward in the Big East. Seton Hall does not have great guards, which could be a deterrent. If he desired a trip to the NCAA Tournament, something he did not experience with Florida State, Watkins would probably look elsewhere.

3. St. John's Red Storm
Head coach Rick Pitino and the St. John’s Red Storm have been linked with every East Coast-based transfer this offseason as he tries to build a roster that can reach the NCAA Tournament. The Red Storm lost Joel Soriano and Chris Ledlum, and the frontcourt needs help, which Jamir Watkins could provide. He would be a good stretch four who could pair nicely with incoming transfer Vince Iwuchukwu. St. John’s has added a pair of excellent guards in Deivon Smith and point guard Kadary Richmond, and adding a talented wing like Watkins could make the Red Storm a dangerous team.
St. John's 2025 NCAA Title Odds: +4500
4. North Carolina Tar Heels
The North Carolina Tar Heels added sharpshooter Cade Tyson from Belmont but have struck out on frontcourt additions thus far. They are pursuing Coleman Hawkins, but he could go pro or return to Illinois. Jamir Watkins would make sense as a 6’7” stretch four who could give UNC some good minutes paired with Tyson. Watkins has experience in the ACC and put up double-digits in each game against North Carolina in 2023-2024.
