Ivy Tournament Best Bet: Princeton (+100)
Nobody has come up with a true answer to this offense yet, and it's not going to happen down in NYC. This team arguably feels better than last year's group that reached the Sweet 16, and we wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they went on a similar run this year. This a top-30 offense nationally that can generate and convert open looks, while rarely turning the ball over. What more could you want? Back the Tigers to repeat as Ivy champs this weekend.
Ivy League Overview
The Ivy will have three league powerhouses reporting to New York City in what should make for an electric atmosphere and tournament this weekend. Princeton will enter as favorites to repeat, while both Yale and Cornell are capable contenders that are worth a look. Or could Brown stun us all and knock off two giants en route to what would be a stunning bid steal? We break down the field here.
Ivy Tournament Favorite: Princeton (+100)
Princeton's offense is a thing of beauty to witness. The Tigers have incredible ball movement, ensure everybody gets a touch, and they never tire. Everyone in the rotation is capable of knocking down a three, making them a nightmare to chase around the court for 40 minutes. The most impressive part is that head coach Mitch Henderson runs a seven-man rotation, utilizing the fewest bench minutes in the country. With everyone at 6'7" or under, he has fully embraced today's small-ball era.
Xaivian Lee is the heartbeat of the team. The sophomore has gotten NBA looks due to his shooting ability, quickness, and decision-making as the offense's architect. When he gets going, there is nobody in the league that can stop him from taking over. Keep an eye on him because there will be a stretch in a game this weekend where he gets hot for the Tigers.
Ivy Tournament Challenger: Yale (+180)
It's another season of Yale contending for the Ivy League crown. Head coach James Jones has developed the Bulldogs into a perennial contender, and it's on display again this season. Plenty of their success can be credited to seven-footer Danny Wolf, who has made a massive sophomore leap. The big man can score at all three levels as well as put it on the deck and drive to the rim. Matt Knowling is a slashing forward who can jump out of the gym. Bez Mbeng is a shifty point guard who can really dish it, while August Mahoney is one of the nation's top three-point shooters. The talent is there in New Haven; it's just a matter of consistency recently. They'll enter the field with a sour taste in their mouth after being stunned by Brown on senior night.
Ivy Tournament Dark Horse: Cornell (+390)
Cornell's got the goods to get it done in New York City. They've proven it multiple times, downing Yale and Princeton in their home gym. Head coach Brian Earl has every coach's dream, boasting both a deep and experienced bunch. There is no singular star to point to on this roster, with seven players averaging at least seven points per game. A different player has led Cornell in scoring for six consecutive games, an incredible testament to how spread out the attack is for the Big Red. Earl also loves to play with pace, something that both favorites do not like to do. It could give them the much-needed edge to topple both teams on their path to the automatic bid.
