The bowl season continues on the day after Christmas with three separate matchups. The first game on the slate features the Pittsburgh Panthers from the ACC against perennial MAC contender Toledo in the GameAbove Sports Bowl. Pitt enters the contest at 7-5 but dropped the regular season’s final five games to slide into the postseason. Toledo is also a disappointing 7-5 and finished just 4-4 in the Mid-American Conference.
We’ve got you covered with our favorite plays from Thursday’s showdown.
Pittsburgh vs. Toledo Preview
- Location: Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan
- Time: Thursday at 2:00 pm | Where to Watch: ESPN
- Spread: Pitt (-7.5) | Moneyline: Pittsburgh (-265)/Toledo (+215) | Total: 50.5
Pittsburgh vs. Toledo Best Bets ATS: Toledo (+7.5) and OVER 50.5
The Toledo Rockets have lost three of their last five games, including an inexcusable loss to lowly Akron in overtime. That defeat left them at just 4-4 in conference play and exposed an offense that was nowhere near the standards set by previous Jason Candle teams. However, the Rockets’ defense has been pretty good, and most of that unit is expected to play in this game. Pittsburgh has had some meaningful opt-outs but is still favored, which opens value for the Rockets. The SportsGrid model has a five-star play on the Toledo Rockets to cover the spread (Jason Candle is 6-1 in his last seven games against the spread as an underdog). In addition, the model has this game going OVER, with the two teams expected to combine for nearly 54 points in the contest.

Pittsburgh vs. Toledo Best Alt./Props
Player props are not currently offered in this game, but there are some interesting alternative bets to explore. A few favorites include an alternative spread of Toledo at -4.5, offered at +310 at FanDuel, Toledo’s team total to go over the posted total of 20.5, and Toledo as the first-half winner at +172. With both teams returning from long layoffs, there is the potential for some defensive struggles to begin the contest, and FanDuel is offering a wager of 4+ touchdowns to be scored in the first half with odds of +370.
