Northern Illinois (-1.5) at Western Michigan - Wednesday at 7:00
The final game in Week 1 of MACtion is the headliner: 4-0 Western Michigan traveling to DeKalb to take on the Northern Illinois Huskies. After shocking Notre Dame, things have not gone well for NIU, and they have slipped to just 1-3 in the league and 4-4 overall. The offense is the conference’s worst, as they have scored only 66 points through four league games. Western Michigan comes in at the top of the MAC in offense, racking up 179 points through four games and scoring at least 45 three separate times in league play. Veteran Hayden Wolff is completing nearly 70 percent of his passes, and Jaden Nixon is possibly the MAC’s best running back, averaging 7.2 yards per carry with ten rushing touchdowns. Northern Illinois’ offensive woes will find no cure, and they cannot keep up with Western Michigan’s attack. Go with the Broncos to win outright.
Prediction: Western Michigan 24 - Northern Illinois 20

MACtion Begins!
Every November, college football fans are treated to midweek games in the Mid-American Conference. The spectacle has lovingly taken on the nickname “MACtion,” and the 2024 edition begins this week! There are four games this week, two on Tuesday and another pair on Wednesday, and the race for a spot in the MAC Championship Game is heating up. How will the first week of MACtion play out?
Bowling Green (-12.5) at Central Michigan - Tuesday at 7:30
The Bowling Green Falcons travel to Central Michigan to take on the Chippewas on Tuesday night. Bowling Green enters at 3-1 in the MAC and 4-4 overall and are nearly two-touchdown favorites over the struggling 3-5 Central Michigan Chippewas. CMU has been outscored 103 to 145 in MAC play and has lost three games in a row, but they are 3-1 at home. The Falcons are coming off an impressive 41 to 26 win at Toledo and are getting a good balance on offense. Central Michigan is giving up five yards per carry this season, and the defense has gotten worse over the past couple of games. Bowling Green should be able to score in the 30s, but Central Michigan has not shown the capability to put up points consistently.
Prediction: Bowling Green 35 - Central Michigan 17
Miami of Ohio (11.5) at Ball State - Tuesday at 8:00
The second game on Tuesday night features Chuck Martin’s Miami RedHawks battling the Ball State Cardinals. Miami is one of three teams sitting at 3-1 in the MAC and is riding a three-game winning streak. The 2023 MAC Champions have one of the league’s best defenses, and their offense has rounded into form with three straight games of at least 30 points and 46 in their last outing. Miami averages 4.41 yards per carry, which is terrible news for the Ball State Cardinals. BSU is among the worst in the country at defending the run, allowing a whopping six yards per carry. Martin is one of the best and most underappreciated coaches in the Group of Five, and the RedHawks keep on rolling.
Prediction: Miami (OH) 31 - Ball State 14
Ohio (-18.5) at Kent State - Wednesday at 7:00
The Ohio Bobcats open the Wednesday night slate with a game at Kent State. The Bobcats are 3-1 in the MAC and 5-3 overall, while Kent State is possibly the worst team in the FBS. Kent State just lost by 31 to Western Michigan and 21 to Bowling Green, and they have shown no ability to compete with the better teams in this league under head coach Kenni Burns. Ohio hammered Buffalo 47-16, and Parker Navarro has proven to be a good dual-threat quarterback, something Kent State cannot handle. Kent State is at home, but there will be no home-field advantage. Ohio blasts Kent State to improve to 4-1 in the league.
Prediction: Ohio 38 - Kent State 14
