After making it to the College Football Playoff last year before bowing out against Washington, expectations will land in a similar ballpark for the Texas Longhorns in 2024. Quinn Ewers is right in t mix to capture the Heisman trophy for Steve Sarkisian's group, even with some injury concerns. The Longhorns look the part of a national title threat and are now the No. 1 ranked team in the country. With Georgia suffering a scare, the Longhorns still remain as the top team in our weekly SEC power rankings. Will the winner of Georgia/Alabama jump the Longhorns?

16. Mississippi State Bulldogs
There's reason to believe things might be turning around with Mississippi State, but Rome wasn't built in a day. Head coach Jeff Lebby says what fans want to hear, and they've at least played some competitive games to start the season. Baby steps. I'd imagine they aren't looking forward to this clash with Texas, though.

15. South Carolina Gamecocks
With multiple changes on offense assuredly coming for the South Carolina Gamecocks, this season could be another year we see this program take a step back. Even if we're expecting that to happen moving forward, the Gamecocks put together an impressive showing in their Week 2 win vs. Kentucky. Keeping this close against LSU helps build their resume. The Gamecocks should have won that game, but multiple things went against them.

14. Vanderbilt Commodores
Clark Lea's group picked up a major statement victory in Week 1 against Virginia Tech. They followed that up in Week 2 with a beat down of Alcorn State. Week 3 was their first let down of the year against Georgia State. The Commodores with responding by taking Missouri to overtime. I'd call that successful.

13. Florida Gators
Entering 2024, the future certainly looks better than the present for the Florida Gators. Graham Mertz and the Gators' offense haven't left a lot to be excited about. Five-star quarterback DJ Lagway needs more reps this year in a season that's already gone off the rails.

12. Auburn Tigers
No matter what you think of the Auburn Tigers as a program, with head coach Hugh Freeze in the mix, there's always going to be headlines worth following here. Despite being double-digit favorites in Week 2 against Cal, the Tigers were upset in a spot they should have dominated in. Seems to be the trend of this program of late, and that continued after suffering another upset loss in Week 4.

11. Arkansas Razorbacks
If you're looking for a head coach whose seat will continue to get warmer with another slow start, look no further than Sam Pittman at Arkansas. It was nice that the Razorbacks kept it close in Week 2, but we don't do moral victories here. Arkansas did enough in Week 3 to get back in the win column, which has more positive vibes present around this program. The Razorbacks continue that momentum with a road upset in Auburn. Are we underestimating them?

10. Kentucky Wildcats
The Kentucky Wildcats have been a puzzling team to understand early on this season. There's talent on this roster, but they really aren't doing anything to make you feel confident. A Week 2 blowout loss to South Carolina didn't help matters, but the Wildcats responded by taking the No.1 Georgia Bulldogs to the ropes in Week 3 under the lights. That's enough to build some creditability. Let's see how they manage against Ole Miss in Week 5.

9. Oklahoma Sooners
It continues to feel strange putting the Oklahoma Sooners in an SEC power ranking, but this is the stuff we have to get used to. Five-star quarterback prospect Jackson Arnold has had some early growing pains for Brent Venables program, and is now seemingly benched. It's hard to be confident in what this program is doing in 2024.

8. Texas A&M Aggies
We entered the year fairly high on this Texas A&M program. Mike Elko has done a bang up job in reshaping this roster, and even though there were some positives in Week 1 against Notre Dame, a loss on the big stage is still a loss. It's been a quiet start to the season for the Aggies, but they still only have that one blemish in Week 1.

7. LSU Tigers
It's promising to see the LSU Tigers back in the mix as a top program in college football. Brian Kelly's squad will be led by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier on offense, who looked strong in Week 1 against USC. Even with some positives sprinkled in, the Tigers have still been relatively inconsistent when you factor in the expectations we had for this program coming in.

6. Missouri Tigers
The Missouri Tigers are coming off a strong year under head coach Eli Drinkwitz, and they continued to look the part with some key pieces returning on offense. Highlighted by quarterback Brady Cook , along with stud wideout prospect Luther Burden III. The Tigers have quietly gone about their business early on, and we still haven't seen this offense firing on all cylinders yet. The Tigers suffered a scare in Week 4 against Vanderbilt. Maybe that's the wake up call this program needed.

5. Tennessee Volunteers
A good quarterback in college football doesn't always equate to monumental success. Still, we're extremely bullish on what we're expecting from Nico Iamaleava in 2024, and he's been very dynamic to start to the year. Can this defense continue trucking along and making an impact? The Volunteers looked the part of a national title contender in Week 4's victory over Oklahoma.

With the way things are shaping up for the Ole Miss Rebels, they'll have their sights set on a College Football Playoff berth in 2024. Lane Kiffin and company landed multiple difference makers on defense in the portal, namely stud recruits Walter Nolen and Princely Umanmielen. With Heisman candidate Jaxson Dart continuing to look like a stud, the Rebels are already making noise through four weeks in a loaded SEC at the top.

With Nick Saban retiring, a new era is upon us with the Alabama Crimson Tide under head coach Kalen DeBoer. The Crimson Tide haven't missed a beat early on. Heisman hopeful Jalen Milroe is driving the bus on offense, and the Crimson Tide continue to look like an elite program. With Georgia on tap in Week 5, will the Crimson Tide put together a performance worthy of a victory as home underdogs? That would go a long way in boasting their resume.

After falling to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game last year, the Georgia Bulldogs reloaded and are back as national title contenders entering the year. The key pieces largely returned for Kirby Smart's program in 2024, highlighted by Heisman trophy contender Carson Beck. The Bulldogs made sure to put the college football landscape on notice with a dominant 34-3 victory over Clemson in Week 1. The Bulldogs felt uncomfortable for the first time this season in a Week 3 tightly contested road victory vs. Kentucky. Let's see how they respond in this major Week 5 matchup in Tuscaloosa.
