After making it to the College Football Playoff last year before bowing out against Washington, expectations will land in a similar ballpark for the Texas Longhorns in 2024. Quinn Ewers is right in t mix to capture the Heisman trophy for Steve Sarkisian's group, even with some injury concerns. The Longhorns look the part of a national title threat after a dominant showing vs. Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. The Longhorns followed that up with a puzzling performance against Georgia for their first loss of the year. The Longhorns have some work to do, but they still appear as the top team in the SEC right now.

16. Mississippi State Bulldogs
There's reason to believe things might be turning around with Mississippi State, but Rome wasn't built in a day. Just when you think this program might be turning a corner, they revert back to their old ways. A nice win over Kentucky leaves them in a better spot.

It continues to feel strange putting the Oklahoma Sooners in an SEC power ranking, but this is the stuff we have to get used to. Five-star quarterback prospect Jackson Arnold has had some early growing pains for Brent Venables program. It's hard to be confident in what this program is doing in 2024. With continued let downs, the Sooners have told us exactly what this program is right now.

13. Kentucky Wildcats
The Kentucky Wildcats have been a puzzling team to understand early on this season. There have been many moment of strong play, and others that left us wanting a lot more. That theme continued in Week 10.

The Missouri Tigers are coming off a strong year under head coach Eli Drinkwitz, and they continued to look the part with some key pieces returning on offense. Highlighted by quarterback Brady Cook , along with stud wideout prospect Luther Burden III. . The Tigers have yet to look the part of an SEC threat in 2024. Taking a step back is very disappointing with this talented roster.

11. Florida Gators
Entering 2024, the future certainly looks better than the present for the Florida Gators. Five-star quarterback DJ Lagway needs more reps this year in a season that's already had its ups and downs. The Gators had a convincing win over Kentucky in Week 8 that moved them up our list. Keeping things closer than expected against Georgia helped their case.

10. Arkansas Razorbacks
If you're looking for a head coach whose seat will continue to get warmer with another slow start, look no further than Sam Pittman at Arkansas. It was nice that the Razorbacks kept it close in Week 2, but we don't do moral victories here. Arkansas did enough in Week 3 to get back in the win column, which has more positive vibes present around this program. The Razorbacks shocked the Volunteers in Week 6, but followed that up with a dud against LSU in Week 8. It's good to see that they can leave games in the past like they did during their dominant Week 9 showing vs. Mississippi State. Overall, it's been an impressive year.

9. Vanderbilt Commodores
Clark Lea's group picked up a major statement victory in Week 1 against Virginia Tech. The Commodores have been better than expected, and picked up a monster victory in Week 6 by defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide. Who saw that one coming? We expected more against Ball State, but we can forgive them for that after the stretch they just had. Keeping things close against Texas was once again a step in the right direction, but a blowout loss to South Carolina didn't help.

8. South Carolina Gamecocks
There was a lot to like from the South Carolina Gamecocks in Week 7 against Alabama. If a few more breaks went their way, we can make a case the Gamecocks would be higher on this list. South Carolina followed that up another consistent performance. The Gamecocks are trending more positively after a dominant showing against Vanderbilt.

It's promising to see the LSU Tigers back in the mix as a top program in college football. Brian Kelly's squad will be led by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier . The Tigers have continued to get better as the season has progressed. A big win against Ole Miss gave them momentum, but losses against Texas A&M and Alabama halted that.

Mike Elko has done a bang up job in reshaping this roster, and even though there were some positives in Week 1 against Notre Dame, a loss on the big stage is still a loss. The Aggies posted a signature win in Week 9 over LSU, and followed that up with a dud against South Carolina. Let's see how they respond at the end of their schedule.

5. Tennessee Volunteers
A good quarterback in college football doesn't always equate to monumental success. Still, we're extremely bullish on what we're expecting from Nico Iamaleava in 2024, and he's made some strides to this point. Can this defense continue trucking along and making an impact? The Volunteers have looked the part of contenders at times, and a big win vs. Alabama helped their case. Let's see if they can go into Georgia and make some noise.

After falling to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game last year, the Georgia Bulldogs reloaded and are back as national title contenders entering the year. The key pieces largely returned for Kirby Smart's program in 2024, highlighted by Heisman trophy contender Carson Beck. Beck hasn't had the season that Georgia fans would like to this point. With losses to Alabama and Ole Miss, the Bulldogs are now on the ropes ahead of their matchup under the lights vs. Tennessee.

The Crimson Tide knocked off Georgia in Week 5 on the back of a dominant first half. You simply can't follow up a huge win with losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee. Still, the Crimson Tide have put together big wins against Georgia and LSU. That has them right back in the picture.
