30. Xavier Chaplin - Auburn Tigers
The other key piece of the offensive line for the Auburn Tigers arrived via the transfer portal. Xavier Chaplin, the 6’7” left tackle, transferred to Auburn from Virginia Tech after earning honorable mention All-ACC honors last season as a 12 game starter for the Hokies. Auburn is hoping he can return to his 2023 form. During that season, Chaplin was a Third Team All-American. Chaplin has nearly 1,500 career snaps. If Auburn can find the form he had in 2023, he’ll be one of the best gets of this past portal cycle.
1. Jake Slaughter - Florida Gators
Breakout College Football Stars to Know for the 2025 Season
The best returning offensive lineman in college football is not a tackle, and he does not play for Ohio State or Notre Dame. The man in the No. 1 spot is Florida Gators center Jake Slaughter. The veteran leader allowed only one quarterback hit in 728 snaps in 2024, the top mark in the country, and earned All-American honors during his redshirt junior season. Slaughter is an offensive anchor for the Gators, and his return was a massive boon for Billy Napier, who is heading into a make-or-break campaign in Gainesville.
2. Spencer Fano - Utah Utes
Ranking the Top College Football Running Backs for 2025
Head Coach Kyle Whittingham has a beast on his hands, with Utah offensive tackle Spencer Fano. The junior already has 24 career starts and returns to Salt Lake City for the 2025 season with the best run-blocking grade of any returning tackle in the country (Pro Football Focus). Fano is massive at 6’6” and well north of 300 pounds but moves well for a man of his size. He has been a starter at right and left tackle and did not allow a sack after the opening week of the 2024 season. He’s expected to be the starting left tackle for a team hoping for a rebound campaign in 2025.
3. Olaivavega Ioane - Penn State Nittany Lions
Top 10 Penn State Nittany Lions Returning For Another College Football Playoff Run
Penn State should have one of the nation’s best running back duos in 2025. However, those guys would not be the stars they are without a mauler at guard paving the way for them. Olaivavega Ioane is one of the best-run blockers in the entire country. He was fantastic in 2024 and went from nowhere to an established star in one campaign. Ioane is 350 pounds, plays with a violent edge, and moves with terrific agility.
4. Francis Mauigoa - Miami Hurricanes
Ranking the Top College Football Quarterbacks for 2025
Francis Mauigoa was the top offensive line prospect and he’s progressed nicely in his two seasons in Coral Gables. Mauigoa is 6’6” with a great frame and started as the left tackle for the Hurricanes as Cam Ward orchestrated one of the country’s best offenses. The tackle is one good season away from being a top prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft, and if he can help anchor the offense with Carson Beck at quarterback, Miami could contend for a spot in the ACC Championship Game.
5. Kadyn Proctor - Alabama Crimson Tide
Ranking the Top College Football Wide Receivers for 2025
Despite a roller coaster of off-field activity and drama that saw Kadyn Proctor go from Alabama to Iowa for a few weeks and then back to Alabama, the Crimson Tide tackle's on-field performance was solid. The former five-star recruit has emerged as a force on the front line for a team looking to run the ball more consistently than they did in 2024. Proctor is incredibly talented, and many elite tackles moved on to the 2025 NFL Draft. With continued progression, Proctor should fill the void vacated by those individuals.
6. Ar'maj Reed-Adams - Texas A&M Aggies
Top 10 Ohio State Buckeyes Returning For Another Championship Run
Texas A&M faltered down the stretch during Mike Elko’s first season in charge, but the Aggies have high hopes for the program's future. They return a cornerstone for the offensive line with guard Ar’maj Reed-Adams. Reed-Adams transferred from Kansas, and his first year in College Station was an overwhelming success. He was one of the top-graded guards in the country on Pro Football Focus and one of the best run blockers in the country. Reed-Adams opens things up for a great stable of running backs and a mobile quarterback that forms the foundation for a terrific rushing attack.
7. Charles Jagusah - Notre Dame Fighting Irish
As a unit, perhaps no program consistently produces better offensive lines than the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It’s hard to pick out particular standouts when the whole group functions at such a high level, but the best-returning lineman, when healthy, is Charles Jagusah. Offensive line coach Joe Rudolph has some things to figure out, but he should be able to feel great about his starting tackles with the return of the athletic Jagusah to the lineup at left tackle.
8. Blake Miller - Clemson Tigers
Top 10 Oregon Ducks Returning For Another College Football Playoff Run
The Clemson Tigers will have one of the nation’s best offenses, returning a great group of receivers and quarterback Cade Klubnik. None of those skill players would matter without the development and return of a strong offensive line. Offensive tackle Blake Miller will lead the unit under the direction of position coach Matt Luke. Miller could have gone to the NFL, but he chose to return for his final season of eligibility. The Tigers will lean on him and three other returning offensive line starters.
9. Isaiah World - Oregon Ducks
Top 10 Oregon Ducks Returning For Another College Football Playoff Run
The Oregon Ducks lost a couple of key pieces from an excellent offensive line in 2024 and turned to the transfer portal to plug a hole at left tackle, bringing in Isaiah World from Nevada. Beyond having a cool name, World has the frame and the talent to become an All-Big Ten tackle in 2025, and his addition will be key to helping the Ducks to try and repeat as league champions.
10. Anthonie Knapp - Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Stay ahead of the game and elevate your sports betting experience with SportsGrid.
As previously mentioned, Notre Dame has a tremendous offensive line unit, meaning Charles Jagusah is not alone near the top of the position rankings. Jagusah figures to start at left tackle, while Freshman All-American Anthonie Knapp will return to man the starting right tackle position. Knapp stepped in at left tackle as a true freshman after Jagusah was injured in fall camp and performed incredibly well. It was a significant blow when he left the playoff game against Penn State, but he is expected to be ready for the spring. Knapp should be able to slide over seamlessly to right tackle with a year of experience to form a great pair of bookends for the Irish.
11. Riley Mahlman - Wisconsin Badgers
Wisconsin is well-known for producing good offensive linemen, and the next great one appears to be Riley Mahlman. Mahlman was expected to perform well in 2024 and did, producing the same Pro Football Focus grade as top 15 pick Olu Fashanu and earning above 75 ratings on run blocking and pass blocking during the 2024 campaign. Mahlman is a steady force for the Badgers and will need to be an All-Big Ten player for Wisconsin to have a chance at a potent offense in 2025.
12. Jordan Seaton - Colorado Buffaloes
Colorado had high expectations for five-star freshman Jordan Seaton, and it is fair to say he exceeded even the loftiest of hopes. Deion Sanders immediately plugged Seaton into a starting tackle role, and he was the No. 1 left tackle for Shedeur Sanders. His Pro Football Focus grade was 75.3, a pass-blocking grade that was a remarkable 13 points higher than any other true freshman tackle nationally. He is not even 20 years old, and his ceiling is incredibly high.
13. Aamil Wagner - Notre Dame Fighting Irish
If I were an offensive lineman with the potential to develop into an NFL Draft pick, there is no school I would consider ahead of Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have turned into a factory for big hosses to turn into great players and should be great up front again this season. Aamil Wagner was shoved into the lineup with no experience. Still, he finished his junior season as one of the best tackles in the country, behind only Spencer Fano and Kelvin Banks Jr. on Pro Football Focus. He’s a terrific run blocker and held his own in pass protection.
14. Carter Smith - Indiana Hoosiers
Carter Smith entered the transfer portal before the 2024 season but chose to return to Indiana University and play for new head coach Curt Cignetti and offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan. That turned out to be a wise move, and Smith was one of just five returning Power Four offensive tackles who posted grades of 75 or better in both pass blocking and run blocking. He will be starting at left tackle for the third straight season for the Hoosiers and is one of the Big Ten’s best.
15. Gennings Dunker - Iowa Hawkeyes
Iowa is starting over at running back and quarterback. Still, they have a lot of hope that the offensive line will help transfer QB Mark Gronowski give them their best passing offense in years, and Gennings Dunker’s play at right tackle will be enough to elevate any running back to at least a competent level. Dunker is a road-grader that routinely pancakes opposing edge rushers and paves the way for Iowa’s physical rushing attack. He posted a 90.2 run-blocking grade, second only to Spencer Fano in 2024.
16. Logan Jones - Iowa Hawkeyes
The Iowa Hawkeyes should have one of the nation’s better offensive lines, and a second member of that group is among the top 20. Logan Jones is an All-Big Ten center with more than 2,000 career snaps. As is often the case with Iowa offensive linemen, Jones plays with good physicality and a nasty edge and is recognized as playing with great lift in the middle of the line.
17. Iapani Laloulu - Oregon Ducks
As a sophomore, Iapani Laloulu was named to the Rimington Trophy watch list and was an All-Big Ten honorable mention for both the coaches and the media. He started all 14 games for the Oregon Ducks and moved to center for the final 12 after beginning the season at right guard. He allowed no sacks all season and only 10 total pressures in 498 pass-blocking opportunities. The massive interior lineman is now a leader for what should be one of college football’s best lines once again.
18. Melvin Priestly - Illinois Fighting Illini
The Illinois Fighting Illini believe they have a chance to make a run at the College Football Playoff this season, and the offensive line will be a big part of that. The best of the group might be Melvin Priestly. The right tackle is powerful, athletic, and has become a dominant run blocker. The senior from East St. Louis began his career at Grambling State before transferring last season to Illinois. He started all 12 games for the Illini in 2024, earning All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors.
19. Caleb Tiernan - Northwestern Wildcats
Northwestern has developed a few excellent offensive linemen, and the next one is tackle Caleb Tiernan. Tiernan played more than 2,100 snaps in his career on the left and right sides. He is 6’7” and nearly 330 pounds and has started every game for the Wildcats each of the past two seasons. If he can perform well this season, he has the size and profile of an early NFL Draft pick.
20. Jaeden Roberts - Alabama Crimson Tide
The Alabama Crimson Tide had a disappointing first season under head coach Kalen DeBoer. The running game was not great outside of Jalen Milroe manufacturing things with his legs, and the passing game was inconsistent. The Tide are hopeful that Year 2 will be a return to form, and the offensive line duo of Kadyn Proctor and Jaeden Roberts must set the tone. The redshirt senior from Texas started 12 games for the Crimson Tide at right guard last season and was named to the Lombardi Award Watch List and Outland Trophy Watch List. Roberts is a mauler and much better as a run blocker than a pass blocker. He needs to improve the latter part of his game as Alabama pivots to the less-mobile Ty Simpson at quarterback.
21. Monroe Freeling - Georgia Bulldogs
By the lofty standards of Kirby Smart’s recent past, the Georgia Bulldogs had a bit of a disappointing 2024 campaign. Still, they won the SEC and made the College Football Playoff. That’s a historic season at most schools. UGA will likely try to run the ball much better than last year and rely on tackle Monroe Freeling to have a strong season after he recovers from shoulder surgery. Freeling will be out for the summer after the January procedure, but he’ll be back by the time the season begins in August and slide in at right tackle.
22. Ethan Onianwa - Ohio State Buckeyes
The Ohio State Buckeyes had a huge need at left tackle and spent big to bring in all 335 pounds of Ethan Onianwa from Rice. Many draft analysts felt Onianwa could have been a second-round pick if he had entered the 2025 NFL Draft, but he hit the transfer portal and ended up in Columbus. He impressed during the spring and is locked in as the gigantic starting left tackle for the reigning national champs.
23. Trevor Goosby - Texas Longhorns
Kelvin Banks Jr. was drafted in the top ten of the 2025 NFL Draft, and his departure leaves a hole at left tackle. The Texas Longhorns will have four new starters on the line, but injuries during the season gave Steve Sarkisian a glimpse at things without some of those guys. Trevor Goosby was outstanding in relief duty a season ago, playing both tackle spots and showing outstanding athleticism and physicality. He has a great frame and projects as a future first-round pick.
24. Bryce Foster - Kansas Jayhawks
The Kansas Jayhawks are far from a factory for great offensive linemen, but Bryce Foster transferred to Lawrence after a stint at Texas A&M and found his place playing for Lance Leipold last season. Foster is big for a center but still moves well, which is necessary in that offensive system. He’s at his best as a zone blocker and has turned into the leader and anchor in the middle for Kansas as one of the best linemen in the Big 12. The question will be whether or not the rest of the Kansas offense can perform up to snuff around him after a disappointing 2024 season.
25. Ashton Craig - Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Yes, another Notre Dame offensive lineman on this list. Ashton Craig's injury paved the way for Pat Coogan’s star turn, but Craig is now healthy, and Coogan is now in Bloomington playing for the Indiana Hoosiers. Craig will start at center again for the Fighting Irish and should have the nation’s best offensive line. He only played 159 snaps before tearing his ACL, but he’s quick, athletic, and has excellent technique. The injury occurred early in the season, so there is no doubt he’ll be ready for the 2025 campaign.
26. Parker Brailsford - Alabama Crimson Tide
Kalen DeBoer’s move from Washington to Alabama prior to the 2024 campaign was an interesting one as DeBoer signed on to fill the massive shoes left after Nick Saban’s legendary career. DeBoer did not come alone as multiple UW players came with him to Tuscaloosa and one of those was offensive line leader Parker Brailsford. The center is a bit undersized but he makes up for that with great technique, nimble feet, quick hands and an edge to finish his blocks. Brailsford is one of the top returning centers in the sport for 2025.
27. Caleb Lomu - Utah Utes
The ceiling is sky-high for Utah offensive lineman Caleb Lomu. Lomu, a 6’6” athletic player from Gilbert, Arizona, started 12 games for the Utes at left tackle as a redshirt freshman in 2024. He was named to the 2024 Midseason Freshman All-American team by The Athletic and enters the 2025 campaign with a chance to turn into a star. He was a big recruiting win for Kyle Whittingham and the Utah program (4-star recruit and #3 prospect in Arizona) and appears to be on a trajectory to be the next great Utah big tackle. With a bit more bulk and experience this season, he’ll combine with Spencer Fano to form a great pair of bookends on Utah’s offensive line.
28. Emmanuel Pregnon - Oregon Ducks
The Oregon Ducks have turned into an offensive line factory under head coach Dan Lanning. That reputation attracts the next wave of players via the transfer portal and the high school ranks and the Ducks keep churning out high-quality players in the trenches. They reinforced the offensive line with the addition of Emmanuel Pregnon from USC (and Wyoming). Pregnon has a ton of potential and he started every game in the 2024 season for the USC Trojans at left guard and did not allow a single sack (882 offensive snaps). Pregnon is huge and athletic and there is a real chance that the offensive line coaching in Eugene can help turn him into an All-Big Ten player.
29. Jeremiah Wright - Auburn Tigers
We turn our attention to The Plains as the Auburn Tigers face a critical season for the program and for head coach Hugh Freeze. The Tigers have spent the past two years loading up with strong high school classes that have gained seasoning while losing to tough SEC opponents. Auburn is now loaded at wide receiver but the wide receivers won’t be able to get the ball if the offensive line doesn’t improve quite a bit. One of the anchors on the line will be offensive guard Jeremiah Wright. Wright is a converted defensive lineman that is 6’5” and nearly 340 pounds. He’s still raw as an offensive lineman but shows incredible promise as a run-blocker. With a bit more refinement this season in the pass blocking department, Wright could have an All-SEC campaign.
