Top 25 Punters for the 2025 College Football Season

25. Emilio Duran, Toledo
The Toledo Rockets may have an actual rocket aimed to land at the 50-yard line of Kent State’s field, but punter Emilio Duran is aiming his punts inside the 20-yard line. Duran averaged 41.3 yards per punt last season and had 21 of his 60 punts land inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.

1. Ryan Eckley, Michigan State
Ryan Eckley was named Second Team All-Big Ten for his performance as a sophomore for the Michigan State Spartans. Eckley led the Big Ten in punting yard average at 47.9 while pinning opponents inside the 20-yard line 30 times and forcing 30 fair catches. He had 44 punts of over 50 yards.
2. Jacob Ulrich, Oklahoma
After a big season at Kennesaw State, Jacob Urlich is stepping up to the SEC by transferring to Oklahoma. Urlich led Conference USA in punting average with 45.4 yards per punt. He pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line 27 times as well.
3. Atticus Bertrams, Wisconsin
Atticus Bertrams was second in the Big Ten in average yards per punt at 45.3. He pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line 20 times and forced 15 fair catches. The Badgers do not have high expectations in 2025 from the books, but Bertrams could help turn their luck around.
4. Bryce McFerson, Maryland
Bryce McFerson had an impressive year for Maryland after transferring from Notre Dame. Last season McFerson punted the ball 52 times for an average of 45.1 yards. He forced 18 fair catches and pinned opponents inside their 20-yard line 21 times. He did have three touchbacks.
5. Jack Bouwmeester, Texas
Jack Bouwmeester was on this list last season, but for the Utah Utes. Now he will be with the Texas Longhorns. He led the Big XII in punting average with 44.7 yards per punt on 60 punts. He forced 24 fair catches and pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line 23 times.

6. Brett Thorson, Georgia
Brett Thorson has a huge leg, and the Bulldogs have a great punt coverage team. Thorson averaged 47.6 yards per punt last year with a 43.5 net yards per punt. That’s elite.

7. Rhys Dakin, Iowa
The Iowa Hawkeyes always have a good punter, and it is usually one of the reasons why they win eight or more games more often than not. Rhys Dakin has been great, averaging 44.1 yards on 64 punts with a net average of 40.2 yards.

8. Daniel Sparks, Virginia
Daniel Sparks enters the 2025 season as a First Team All-ACC selection. He is the conference’s leading returning punter with an average punt of 44.6 yards last season.

9. Palmer Williams, Baylor
Palmer Williams was the Big XII’s leading punter in 2024. He averaged 49.3 yards with a 42.9-yard net average on 43 punts. If Baylor wants to live up to the hype in 2025, Palmer will be a weapon to help the defense.

10. Logan Lupo, Florida Atlantic
There is not much to like about the Florida Atlantic Owls, but punter Logan Lupo is a bright spot. He averaged 44.5 yards per punt in 2024 and will find himself on an All-AAC team at year’s end.

11. Aidan Laros, Kentucky
The Wildcats have a really good punter in Aidan Laros, who averaged 45.4 yards per punt and pinned opponents inside their own 20-yard line 11 times and forced 10 fair catches. He gets the full-time job this year after splitting time with Wilson Berry in 2024.

12. Jack Stonehouse, Syracuse
Coming off an All-ACC Honorable Mention season in 2024, Jack Stonehouse is back for the Orange. He averaged 45.7 yards per punt, pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line 18 times, and had 19 punts of over 50 yards.

13. Keelan Crimmins, Illinois
A transfer from Purdue, Keelan Crimmins was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention last season. Expectations are high for him as he moves to Illinois. Last season for the Boilermakers, Crimmins averaged 44.9 yards on 64 punts with 17 punts downed inside the 20-yard line.

14. Devin Bale, Arkansas
Devin Bale punted 51 times in 12 games for the Razorbacks last season. He averaged 45.2 yards with a long of 66 yards. He pinned opponents inside their own 20-yard line 11 times

15. Oliver Straw, West Virginia
West Virginia only had 35 punts in 2024, but when they did punt Oliver Straw was very good. He averaged 43.7 yards per punt and landed 15 inside the 20-yard line.

16. Luke Freer, Air Force
After a Second Team All-Mountain West year in 2024, Luke Freer is back to boot the football for Air Force. Even with splitting time, Freer was so efficient, he made lists. He averaged 47.5 yards per game on just 31 punts.

17. Alex Smith, Georgia Southern
Alex Smith had a big sophomore season for Georgia Southern. He punted 58 times for an average of 42.7 yards. 19 of those punts landed inside the 20-yard line, and he had a long punt of 63 yards.

18. Ross James, Oregon
The Ducks do indeed punt, and they have a good one in Ross James. He had a 45.5-yard average with a long punt of 69 yards. However, only five punts were downed inside the 20-yard line.

19. Kade Reynoldson, Duke
Kade Reynoldson was a weapon for Duke last year in a 9-4 season for the Blue Devils. He punted 75 times for a 43.8-yard average as a true freshman in 2024. Reynoldson also downed the ball inside the 20-yard line 27 times. Oh, he’s still just a sophomore.

20. James Rendell, Notre Dame
The Australian punter has a big leg. James Rendell punted 50 times for the Irish in 2024 and averaged 41.8 yards with a long of 61. He pinned opponents inside their own 20-yard line 24 times and had eight punts of more than 50 yards.

21. Caleb Junko, Pittsburgh
Caleb Junko enters his final year of college football with high expectations. He has 132 career punts with a career average of 43.5 yards. He has put 35 balls inside the 20-yard line and forced 27 fair catches. However, Junko has had 12 punts go for touchbacks.

22. Wes Pahl, Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State’s Wes Pahl is coming off his best season, where he averaged 46.4 yards per punt. However, he struggles pinning opponents deep and has as many touchbacks (four) as balls downed inside the 20.

23. Sam Vander Haar, BYU
Sam Vander Haar had a nice first year at BYU after transferring from Pitt. He increased his average punt distance by over four yards to 42.8 from 2023 to 2024. Also, 42.4 percent of his posts were downed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.

24. Oscar Doyle, Boise State
Oscar Doyle moves to Boise State from Weber State. He is a preseason All-MWC selection after being a semi-finalist for FCS Punter of the Year in 2024. Doyle averaged 44.4 yards per punt last season.
