5) Ole Miss Rebels
Ole Miss is in the same scenario as LSU. The Rebels are currently on the outside looking in, but they have the opportunity to control their own destiny if they can finish the season strong. Ole Miss is set to take on Georgia this weekend at home, and if they can find a way to outlast the Bulldogs, Lane Kiffin’s squad could almost certainly shake things up at the top. Not only will a win likely slot them in the Top 12 of the next rankings, but they’ll be in contention to compete for an SEC Championship.

1) Texas A&M Aggies (7-2)
Texas A&M was slotted in as the second team out, even after falling to unranked South Carolina on the road over the weekend. The Aggies had plenty of hype after their strong start to the season, and it’s clear the committee still isn’t fully out on A&M. If they can win out, including their final game against the Longhorns, they could essentially control their destiny.

2) SMU Mustangs (8-1)
Currently, SMU is the first team out in the updated College Football Playoff Rankings. With an 8-1 record, the Mustangs will have the opportunity to take on the Miami Hurricanes in the ACC Championship. If they can win out and then knock off the 'canes, they’ll not only punch their ticket into the playoffs, but they could mix up the whole postseason bracket.
Odds to Make College Football Playoffs: SMU +130
3) Iowa State Cyclones
Iowa State is in nearly the same position as SMU. The Cyclones took their first loss of the season over the weekend, but if they can win out, they’d have the opportunity to take on BYU in the Big 12 Championship. With a win, they could grab one of the top seeds and stir things up in the rest of the bracket.

4) LSU Tigers (6-2)
The LSU Tigers continue to hang on to their hopes of clinching a spot in the College Football Playoff. Fortunately, they opened the first College Football Playoff Rankings in the No. 13 spot. With a big-time game against Alabama this weekend, a win against the Crimson Tide could be enough to slot them into the Top 12.
