Euro 2024 Final: Spain vs. England, Prediction, Best Bet

After a tournament filled with impressive goals, incredible performances, and a ton of world-class soccer, the big day is finally here. Spain will be taking on England in the 2024 Euro Finals. It is an opportunity for Spain to win their fourth European Championship, making them the nation with the most. England are playing in their second straight Euros final, hoping to avenge their loss to Italy three years ago. A fun fact: this will be the first time the Three Lions will play a tournament final away from home and in the safe confines of Wembley Stadium
It is fair to say the two finalists have taken very different routes to the finals. Spain was in the pre-tournament group of death, winning their three matches, beating Albania, Croatia, and Italy. Once the knockouts came around, La Roja did not slow down. They easily turned away Georgia and beat two pre-tournament favorites. They won against the hosts in the Quarters in extra-time thanks to a Mikel Merino header. Against France in the Semifinals, Dani Olmo scored in his third straight game, which gave the Spanish a 2-1 win.
For many fans, Spain has been the team of the tournament. They’ve played an exciting brand of soccer and have a handful of standout players. Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal are announcing themselves as stars on the world stage, with Yamal becoming the youngest goalscorer in Euros history. Dani Carvajal is having one of his best seasons ever and will be back for the finals after serving his suspension. Whenever there is trouble at the back for Spain, Rodri is there to clean it up and release the pressure.
England has not been as fun to watch up to this point. Beneficiaries of an easy group, they still only mustered one win and two goals. That was good enough to top their group and gave them a spot on the easier side of the bracket. But even the easy draw could not coax the best out of England. They needed extra time to beat Slovenia 2-1 and penalties to beat the Swiss. They did not look convincing in either win. Silver lining for them and their fans they turned in their best performance against the Netherlands, however they still needed a late Ollie Watkins goal to advance.
You would be hard-pressed to find a team sheet with more impressive names, and that is what makes their performances thus far so curious. Still, all that matters is winning, whether you enjoy his tactics or not. Gareth Southgate has England in another final. Jude Bellingham is in the running for the Ballon d’Or and is built for the big occasion. Harry Kane, who has been criticized for his performances, is now tied for the Golden Boot at the tournament. At the same time, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka seem to be hitting a stride.
European Championship Final Best Bet
In this edition of the European Championships, we’ve seen teams defend deep and play to limit mistakes rather than take risks. There is no reason to believe that the finals will be any different. Of the last seven Euro finals, four have featured some form of extra time, and I believe it is very likely we will see the script play out the same way here. Spain will find England tough to break down, and England won’t be too swashbuckling.
Best Bet: Draw at the end of 90 minutes (+180)
European Championship Final Best Prop Bet
As outlined above, extra time has been a prominent feature in more than a couple of Euros finals. With the odds the way they are for this specific bet and the likelihood that both teams will struggle to create clear chances, extra time seems like an inevitability.
Best Prop: Either team to win in Extra-Time (+500)
European Championship Final Best Anytime Goal Bet
Dani Olmo has been on fire once the knockouts started. He scored three goals in three games and was involved in many of Spain’s best chances. Olmo has ten shots in the knockout stages, six of which have been on target. Olmo has seen a lot of success crashing into the box late. He has five carries into the opponent’s penalty box and 18 touches in the same area. England’s most prominent question marks are about its defense, and it’s a safe bet that Olmo will put them to the test.
Anytime Goal Scorer: Dani Olmo (+430)
European Championship Final Prediction
This game is a lot closer than some people are making it seem. Despite all the superlatives thrown Spain’s way, they lack a truly dangerous goal threat at the No. 9 position, and the defense relies a lot on Rodri bailing them out of danger. England can relate to having some problems at the back, but their recent formation change has seemingly breathed life into their team. One more fun fact: since May 21, 2001, Spanish teams have played non-Spanish teams in 22 major finals (Champions League, Europa League, World Cup, Euros). The Spanish teams have won all 22. That streak ends on July 14; it’s finally coming home.
England 2 – Spain 1 (In ET)
