USA Basketball and the WNBA today announced that the 2024 USA Basketball Women’s National Team will play against Team WNBA at the 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game. This exhibition match, scheduled in Phoenix, forms a key part of the National Team’s training camp as they gear up for the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris, where Olympic basketball starts on July 27.
“Participating in the AT&T WNBA All-Star Game will be a great opportunity for our national team as they prepare to defend their Olympic gold medal in Paris,” said USA Basketball CEO Jim Tooley. “It will also serve as a grand celebration of the growth and excellence of women’s basketball in our country and around the world.”
This will be the second occasion the WNBA All-Star Game features a matchup between USA Basketball and Team WNBA, following their first encounter in 2021 before the Tokyo Olympics, where Team WNBA triumphed 93-85.
Leading the USA Women’s National Team this summer will be head coach Cheryl Reeve of the Minnesota Lynx, supported by assistants Kara Lawson (Duke University), Joni Taylor (Texas A&M), and Mike Thibault (Washington Mystics). This coaching team previously guided the USA to a gold medal at the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup.
The USA secured its spot in the 2024 Olympics by clinching its 11th World title at the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Sydney. The USA women’s team is aiming for its eighth consecutive—and tenth overall—Olympic gold medal.
At the 2024 Olympic Summer Games, USA Basketball will be represented by four teams: 5-on-5 men and women, along with 3×3 men and women. The USA teams are the reigning Olympic champions in both 5-on-5 categories and the women’s 3×3. The 3×3 men’s team will make its Olympic debut. Further details on all four USA Basketball teams will be released in the future.
