Carson Beck Performs Like a Heisman Trophy Candidate
Carson Beck earned the reigns of the Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterback position in the offseason and training camp, and he's taken that responsibility and run with it. Although Beck is unlikely to win the Heisman trophy, he's been right in the conversation and could potentially earn a position as a finalist. Beck has thrown for 2,716 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. Beck taking care of the football and reading the game well will continue to be essential if Georgia has aspirations to three-peat.
Defense Creates Turnovers and Gets to the Quarterback
It's no secret that in the Georgia Bulldogs previous two national title wins, that defense was the star of the show. Yes, Stetson Bennett helped lead those offenses successfully, but the last two versions of the Bulldogs' defenses were historically elite. If the Bulldogs want to make it a three-peat, they'll need players like Smael Mondon Jr., Tykee Smith, Javon Bullard, and Malaki Starks to be difference-makers.
Kirby Smart Continues Being an Elite Head Coach
There will be arguments that we've missed the mark here, but in terms of college head coaches, right now, there's Kirby Smart, Nick Saban, and then the rest. It's not to say any of the other dominant teams in the sport don't have good coaches, but Smart and Saban are in a class of their own with their success. Kirby Smart has been a big reason why the Bulldogs remain a serious threat to win another national championship. If anyone can find a way to lead this program to a third straight natty, it's him.
Brock Bowers Returns, Stays Healthy, and Performs at a High Level
The biggest weapon that the Georgia Bulldogs have on offense is Brock Bowers. That's hardly a secret in college football, especially when you factor in there's a strong case to be made that Bowers is a top-ten pick in the upcoming NFL draft. The Bulldogs need Bowers to be healthy for the SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff if they qualify. If Bowers returns and is at least 75% of what he can be, the Bulldogs will be in great shape.
Bulldogs Run the Football, Dominate Time of Possession
It would hardly be a surprise to note that when the Bulldogs have found success running the football, they've often dominated time of possession and the game as a whole. Daijun Edwards leads the Bulldogs backfield, and he's shown explosive tendencies at times this year. When the games continue to get more competitive down the stretch, and the level of competition increases, Edwards and the Georgia running back room will have to continue finding success. If they do, the sky is once again the limit for this group.
