Kirby Smart has the Georgia Bulldogs in prime position to be a dynasty.
They have dominated college football lately, winning two straight National Championships, and are heading into 2023 looking to become just the second team ever to three-peat.
Fresh off a 65-7 flattening of the TCU Horned Frogs in the National Championship, it’s difficult to envision the Bulldogs falling too far this season.
Let’s take a look at BetMGM Sportsbook’s betting insights into the 2023 SEC Championship futures market to see what’s expected of Smart’s demolition squad.
SportsGrid will preview college football conference winners, national championships, and season-win total futures throughout the offseason. See more Buy or Sells articles below.
Conference Winners: ACC-Clemson | Big Ten-Michigan | Big Ten-Ohio State | Pac-12-Colorado | National Championship: Alabama | Georgia | LSU | Michigan | Ohio State | Colorado | Season-Win Totals: Colorado O3.5 | K-State O6.5
The Bulldogs have been dominant and can be had for -110 to win the SEC. While winning a league this tough is no sure thing; they have an easy enough schedule that they should be considered more than a coin flip to win the conference title.
BetMGM College Football Betting Insights: SEC Conference Odds
-Favorites: Georgia -110
-Highest Ticket%: LSU 26.5%
-Highest Handle%: Georgia 44.0%
-Biggest Liability: LSU
The most notable takeaway from these insights is that while Georgia isn’t the most popular bet (that’d be LSU, receiving 26.5% of tickets), the Bulldogs are receiving the most money. Smart’s squad leads the way with a sizable 44% of the handle.
The Bulldogs are receiving love from backers willing to put their money where their mouth is. The price isn’t too wide at -110, and that’s a price worth investing in for this Deathstar in Athens.
Some around the program called 2022 a “rebuilding" year, which should strike fear into the rest of the SEC. The Bulldogs are forecast to be even more ferocious on defense this season. With the amount of returning talent, it’s not unreasonable to expect that side of the ball to resemble 2021’s version rather than the 2022 iteration.
The offense does have some questions to answer. Carson Beck likely starts at quarterback, although he’ll have to fend off two other challengers, Brock Vandagriff, and Gunner Stockton. Smart will also have a new offensive coordinator as Mike Bobo returns to Athens following Todd Monken‘s departure to the Baltimore Ravens.
There shouldn’t be too much worry with this offense as the offensive line might be the best in the country, and Bobo coordinated some of the best offenses in recent school history during his first stint with the program. The Bulldogs averaged 37.8 PPG and 476.6 YPG under Bobo in 2012 and were arguably even better in 2014 with 41.3 PPG and 458.8 YPG.
The schedule is primarily a cakewalk outside of playing at Tennessee on November 18. There’s a gap between the Bulldogs and the rest of the country, and until someone else proves otherwise, I’ll buy Georgia.
