Win the coaching battle
The two programs are led by two of the best head coaches in the nation, Georgia’s Kirby Smart and Tennessee’s Josh Heupel. With two great football minds going head-to-head, it’s no secret that the coaching battle will play a significant factor in deciding the winner and loser. With Smart’s brilliance on defense and Heupel’s creative mind on offense, this internal battle between coaches during Saturday’s showdown will be a fun one to watch.
How Tennessee Can Upset Georgia: 5 Keys to Victory
The Tennessee Volunteers have quietly had a solid season, sitting 7-3 on the year. Despite the few losses, the Volunteers, under Josh Heupel, have the talent and leadership to play with the top teams in the nation. And come Saturday, they’ll have their chance to prove it when Georgia comes to town. Here are five keys for the Vols to upset the Bulldogs.
Allow Joe Milton III to use his arm talent
The Volunteers' quarterback, Joe Milton III, arguably has one of the most talented arms in the nation. With the senior's ability to stretch the ball down the field and force throws into tight windows, it's a nightmare to defend against him. And Tennessee's ability to spread the ball around could be vital come Saturday. If Milton III can play a smart game and use his arm to stretch out the Georgia defense, it’ll not only open up the rest of the offensive attack but also increase their odds of knocking off the undefeated Bulldogs.
A balanced attack on offense
Aside from the talent the Vols have at the QB position, they have just as talented a backfield. With running back Jaylen Wright leading the way, Tennessee’s rushing attack is just as dangerous as their passing game. If Wright can get going, it’ll help the aerial attack, and vice versa. Nonetheless, if the Volunteers can keep a balanced attack on offense, it’ll keep Georgia’s defense guessing and the Bulldog defense on their toes.
Take care of the football
For every team in every matchup, it’s always a point of emphasis to take care of the football and limit turnovers. Winning the turnover battle can single-handedly be the deciding factor in a game of this magnitude. And for the Vols, the last thing they need to do is give an explosive Georgia offense the ball at the rate they can score. If the Vols can protect the ball and make use of every offensive possession, it’ll pay dividends on Saturday.
Apply pressure to Carson Beck
Carson Beck is one of the better game-managing quarterbacks in the nation. And with the talent surrounding him on offense, that’s all he needs to be. But if Tennessee is able to apply pressure to Beck and collapse the pocket, limiting his time to make decisions will grant the Volunteers defense a better chance to slow down the Bulldogs offense.
