Tier VI: Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt ends the season where they’ve found themselves nearly all season. After losing game after game for the last ten weeks, the Commodores inconsistent play and lack of talent land them at the bottom of their power rankings. If Vandy ever hopes to turn their program around, things need to change in Nashville.
Tier I: Georgia, Alabama
After a long and tough season, these two programs are the only squads to make it out of the regular season undefeated in conference play, but not for long. With Alabama looking to end the year with a statement win in their last push for the CFP, Georgia is eyeing another perfect season under Kirby Smart. Come Saturday night, both teams will have a chance to prove they are the best team in their conference in an SEC championship showdown.
Tier II: Missouri, Ole Miss, LSU
All of these teams came out victorious in rivalry week and continued to represent the SEC in a dominant way. Missouri and Ole Miss finished their seasons at 10-2, with a 6-2 record in SEC play. As for LSU, the Tigers, led by Heisman candidate Jayden Daniels, finished the year just one game behind with a 9-3 record but ended the year 6-2 in conference play. Now, these programs are all in contention for the top bowl games of the year as they look to build off their impressive seasons.
Tier III: Tennessee
The Volunteers have had an up-and-down season under head coach Josh Heupel. Despite their 8-4 record, the Vols finished 4-4 in conference play. And while some may consider a .500 record in the conference good, by the standards of Tennessee fans and players, the expectations were higher. Nonetheless, Tennessee clinched a bowl game and will get a final match to set the tone heading into next season.
Tier IV: Kentucky, Texas A&M, Auburn
These three teams all managed to clinch a bowl game this season. While Kentucky and Texas A&M managed to finish the season 7-5, the Tigers ended the year 6-6 despite their heartbreaking loss against the Crimson Tide. Ultimately, these programs all showed heart and plenty of grit in the regular season finale, and they have all managed to earn themselves one more game as bowl season approaches.
Tier V: Arkansas, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Florida
These teams all have more than one thing in common. Not only did they all lose in rivalry week, but they all missed out on their chance to participate in a bowl game. Following their unsuccessful seasons, these programs will need to go back to the drawing board if they want to get back to their winning ways.
