Tier VI: Mississippi State, South Carolina, Arkansas, Vanderbilt
All three of Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Arkansas are not only on the cusp of being eliminated from bowl eligibility and are likely to finishing the season with a losing record. As for Vanderbilt, the Commodores are still searching to turn their program around following another disappointing season. At 2-8, Vandy has not only been eliminated from bowl eligibility but is also the lone SEC team to officially end the season under .500.
Tier I: Georgia and Alabama
Like every season in recent years, Georgia and Alabama are on top of the SEC. Between Kirby Smart and Nick Saban’s tough-nosed defenses and at times, elite offensive performances, these two teams are hard to defeat on a weekly basis. If both schools continue to dominate their opponents, the SEC Championship could be one for the books this season.
Tier II: Ole Miss
Ole Miss sits alone in Tier II, coming off a close win over the Texas A&M Aggies in Week 10. Looking ahead to Week 11, the Rebels will have a chance to prove they belong at the top as they head into Athens looking to knock off the Georgia Bulldogs. If Lane Kiffin and his squad can deliver the first loss to UGA, these power rankings could look a lot different next week.
Tier III: Tennessee, Missouri
Tennessee and Missouri are in the same boat, just behind Ole Miss. Despite being 3-2 in conference play, both squads have found success this year, sitting at 7-2 overall. With a bowl game already clinched, both teams look to finish the year off strong.
Tier IV: LSU, Kentucky
Both LSU and Kentucky have shown plenty of promising moments this season. Unfortunately, along the way, the Tigers and Wildcats have dealt with some heartbreaking losses, including LSU’s loss in Tuscaloosa to the Crimson Tide in Week 10. Looking ahead to Week 11, Kentucky will get their crack at Bama while LSU looks to bounce back against a feisty Florida Gators team.
Tier V: Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn
One thing all three teams here share in common is that they’re all one win away from clinching a bowl game. And while their seasons may not have gone according to plan, staying above.500 in college football is no easy task. Moving forward, these teams are looking to add to their win totals and finish the year off strong to set the tone for next season.
