Pacquiao’s reemergence in the ring certainly evokes feelings of nostalgia among boxing fans worldwide, but what can we expect from the famed Filipino southpaw at age 46?
Across the way, Barrios—operating at the ripe age of 30—is anything but some cupcake opponent for “Pac-Man." The six-foot Barrios has not lost since 2022, but after fighting to a draw versus Abel Ramos last November, he’ll be hungry against the future hall of famer this weekend.
The tale of the tape shows Barrios to be approximately six inches taller than Pacquiao. Additionally, the San Antonio, TX native shows a reach (71") advantage of about four inches. Barrios does have respectable power and a much larger frame, but with a 62.1% KO clip over 32 professional bouts, he is not precisely a finishing machine.
Of course, Pacquiao—retired or not—is still one of boxing’s living icons, but the eight-division world champion is no longer the explosive athlete he once was. In his most recent work (2021), Pacquiao was defeated by a much stronger opponent, Yordenis Ugas. However, he lasted all 12 rounds.
It is pretty tough to see Pacquiao upsetting Barrios at this juncture. Conversely, I’m not sure a Barrios knockout is worth the wager at +130 odds when a win on points is presently paying back at 2/1. The round total at FanDuel Sportsbook is set for 11.5, which gives me confidence that we’ll see this one through to the final bell.
