Player development is often a helpful tool to gauge a franchise's state, and managers often come through the same pipeline. That was the case for John Schneider, who spent almost two decades at various levels of the Toronto Blue Jays’ system. But after holding the reigns for the big club since 2022 and limited results to show for his time there, it’s time to piss or get off the pot.

For years, the Blue Jays were celebrated for having one of baseball's most exciting young cores. Still, team success has evaded the two-time World Series-winning franchise. Toronto has made it to the playoffs twice under Schneider and has yet to win a game. Moreover, they are coming off their first sub-.500 season since 2019, which wasn’t supposed to happen with this group of players.

The Blue Jays can’t keep waiting for John Schneider to lead this club to the next level. If the Jays start to slide, fail to make the postseason, or can’t figure out how to win in October, Schneider could be one of the next Managers to go.

Joe Espada - Houston Astros

The Houston Astros might not be a proud franchise, but they have shown they will win at all costs. After leading the Astros to a division title in his first season in Houston, Joe Espada’s only chance to keep his job is to keep winning. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case in 2025.

The Astros have been hovering around the .500 mark all season. After opening as the odds-on favorite to win the AL West, the betting line started to pivot toward the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers. Since then, the Mariners and Rangers have also surpassed the Astros in World Series futures betting.

Winning is the hallmark of the Astros’ organization. In that regard, Joey Espada has come up short in 2025. If he hasn’t already, he will start to feel the pressure. Espada could be looking for a new job if the results don't follow.

Dave Martinez - Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals aren’t expected to compete for a title in 2025, but they must remain competitive. Dave Martinez has been at the helm of the team since 2018, but hasn’t put together a winning record since the Nationals’ World Series win back in 2019. Anything short of a step in the right direction, and Martinez could be sent packing.

The Nats have reached 71 wins in each of the last two seasons, but haven’t finished higher than fourth in the NL East since 2019. Their young nucleus has gotten enough exposure that results are expected to follow.

A four-game winning streak may have alleviated some pressure for Dave Martinez. Still, anything short of a climb back to .500 could cost Martinez his job.
Brian Snitker - Atlanta Braves
World Series Odds: +1400

As inferred by their World Series betting price, the Atlanta Braves are expected to compete. Brian Snitker has delivered favorable results throughout his ten-year tenure with the club. While injuries have been a factor, the Braves have come up short of the mark in 2025.

Almost 50 games into the season, the Braves are stuck at .500 and losing ground in the NL East. Already, they are 6.0 games back of the division lead and have ceded ground to the Nationals with their recent results.

If the Braves’ slide continues, they could look for a new voice to lead their team. Managerial work relies exclusively on ’What have you done for me lately?’, and Brian Snitker doesn’t have much success to point to.
Kevin Cash - Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays have never given Kevin Cash much to work with, but he has usually delivered results. Coming off his first sub-.500 campaign since 2017, Cash needs to figure things out in Tampa.

The Rays haven’t had a winning record since the season's first week. As soon as they build momentum, they collapse and start to falter. Those lackluster results could demand a change of managers in Tampa Bay.

While a division title was never expected, this team was supposed to compete for a playoff spot. The Rays need more consistency and are slowly finding out that Kevin Cash might not be the voice this team needs.
