The O's clinched a playoff spot on Tuesday night. Thanks to a win over the Yankees and another Minnesota lost Baltimore is locked into the postseason. The AL East is pretty much out of reach, although still possible mathematically.

Not only did they have to watch their division rival celebrate clinching the AL West crown but also saw their tragic number slide to danger territory of three. Dropping last night's series opener against the Astros all but sealed the Tridents fate.

Detroit officially went from tragic to magic number following their series win in Baltimore and Minnesota double-header loss on Sunday. Minnesota lost again on Tuesday night to fall two games back of the Royals and Tigers in the Wild Card race. The Twins still own the tiebreaker over the Tigers, but the Tigers own the tiebreaker over the Royals. Detroit has its destiny in its hands. If the second half Cinderella team can win out, they roll into the postseason.

Minnesota dropped its third straight on Tuesday, a 4-1 loss in Miami. While they own tiebreakers over both Detroit and KC, the Twins have not done themselves any favors by getting cold at the worst possible time. With two back and five to play Minny is on the outside looking in.

Elimination number: 5 Atlanta was knocked out of contention for the NL East title on Friday, but they aren't leaving the playoff race quietly. The Braves took last night's series opener with division rival, the New York Mets. Even better for the Braves, Arizona lost again so Atlanta's tragic number remains at five.

The Mets remain at four combined wins or Braves losses away from securing their spot in the playoffs. New York squandered its first opportunity to create some distance with the Braves, dropping Tuesday's series opener in Atlanta.
San Diego Padres Magic Number

The Padres punched their ticket to the postseason in dramatic fashion in LA on Tuesday night, ending the game on a triple play. A three-game sweep of the Dodgers is now on San Diego's mind which could make the final weekend of the season an epic battle for the division crown.

To clinch the NL West: 3 Clinched playoff spotThe Dodgers officially punched their ticket to the postseason last Thursday, and they’re now within striking distance of locking up a first-round bye. Just two more wins will secure the bye, while three victories will clinch the NL West title. LA opened a three-game set against San Diego on Tuesday and the Padres drew first blood, tightening the division race.

Arizona remains at five combined wins or Braves losses away from clinching a playoff berth. The D-backs squandered an opportunity to shrink their number on Monday night, dropping a 6-3 decision to the visiting Giants. Arizona then dropped Game 2 of the series last night. Atlanta is hanging with a win over the Met in their series opener on Tuesday.
Philadelphia Phillies Magic Number

Clinched NL East Clinched playoff spotThe Phillies came into Monday night's series opener with the Cubs already with a playoff spot. They've now added an NL East crown after beating Chicago, 6-2. Despite getting pounded by the Cubs on Tuesday night, Philly is now just two victories or Brewers losses away from landing a first-round bye.
