5 Potential Landing Spots if Paul George Opts Out

Dallas Mavericks
This might be a little bit premature, especially considering that the Dallas Mavericks are still alive in the NBA postseason. Still, the thought of a star studded trio of Paul George, Kyrie Irving, and Luka Doncic is at least compelling in theory. The Mavericks haven't been afraid to spend money, and if they can't get over the hump this year, it's hard to see this team making it work with how it's currently constructed. Adding George to the mix could give a similar vibe to the failure we've seen with the Phoenix Suns, but George is simply a better fit in Dallas than Bradley Beal was with the Suns.

Philadelphia 76ers
The rumors are already swirling about the Philadelphia 76ers going big name hunting this offseason. With the ability to add a substantial contract on the horizon, the 76ers are a natural fit for Paul George. It's no secret the displeasure that Tobias Harris has caused 76ers' fans, especially when the lasting image of him was a goose egg in Game 6 against the New York Knicks. There's a lot of potential for a core of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George to be in the conversation for an NBA title.
Miami Heat
Doesn't it feel like anytime a star player opts out or is in trade rumors, that the Miami Heat are a team interested? The same was true last season with Damian Lillard, and it won't be a surprise if the buzz around George and Miami heats up this offseason. Adding George to a strong core of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo could be the piece that actually allows the Heat to not only contend in the Eastern Conference, but actually get over the hump and win another championship.
Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets went on a nice run during the second half of the NBA regular season. What that signals is that this team is ready to make a big jump in 2024-25, which is a great sign for a team littered with youth. Although it would likely take some movement on their current roster, bringing in Paul George could elevate the timeline for this group. It's not to say as though patience couldn't pay off, but when you have a chance to add someone of George's caliber, you at least consider the possibility.

Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic are a really interesting team to look at when it comes to Paul George. They have a budding star in Paolo Banchero, who continued his high level of play in a seven-game Round 1 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. There's some real nice depth pieces around Banchero with the Magic, but if this team wants to get serious about winning in the Eastern Conference, they'll need more star power. Paying George makes plenty of a sense for a team that could take a big leap next year.
