These squads already have a few notches in their belt this season, with Duke pulling off an outstanding road win over Arizona and Kansas taking down North Carolina and Michigan State. Both teams sit inside KenPom’s top ten entering this matchup.
The Duke freshmen were thrown into the fire inside a rocking McKale Center against Arizona last week and responded flawlessly. They quickly got out to a lead against the Wildcats and never looked back, having an answer to everything the Wildcats threw at them in the second half. Cooper Flagg looked the part of a one-and-done superstar, while the defense performed well above preseason expectations once again. It was one of the most impressive performances from any team in the country this year.
The Jayhawks lap the field in terms of experience compared to the Blue Devils. They rank first in the nation in Division I experience at nearly 3.5 years on average, something that could really play toward their advantage against Duke’s youth. They also love to pound the paint and score on the inside, with the seventh-highest rate of two-pointers in the country. Expect Hunter Dickinson to have a big day once again and perhaps lead Kansas to victory.
It didn’t go as planned against Arizona, but we’ll stick with the side of the veterans over talent this early in the season. Kansas has loads of players who are involved in games of this magnitude, and we see them as the more prepared side in this one. 3.5 feels like a point or two too many, so we’ll take the Jayhawks and the points here.
The Pick: Kansas +3.5 (-120)
