5 Most Overpriced College Football Contenders For 2024

Florida State Seminoles
Maybe the Florida State Seminoles left a bad taste in our mouths with how last season ended against the Georgia Bulldogs. With all of the opt-outs in the Orange Bowl and a lackluster effort, we're not sure what to expect from Mike Norvell's program in 2024. I'm not sold on the quarterback position with Florida State, which makes evaluating the team difficult before next season. For now, I'm comfortable looking elsewhere for value on the board and avoiding Florida State's +2200 national title price.
Michigan Wolverines
With the number of changes we've seen from the Michigan Wolverines after winning the national title, it would hardly be a surprise to see them falter in their first year post-Jim Harbaugh. Sherrone Moore has demonstrated he can step in and take the reigns as head coach. Still, it's a perfect storm for the Wolverines to have a down season after last year's emotional rollercoaster. With a new starting quarterback and plenty of changes to the coaching staff, we're comfortable avoiding the Wolverines and their sixth-shortest odds to win the national title again at +1500.
Clemson Tigers
It's hardly a secret that the Clemson Tigers have struggled to adjust. The Tigers are behind in recruitment and dishing out money in NIL, which has slowed their program. There's a lot of buzz about quarterback Cade Klubnik, but I'm not sold on him leading the Tigers to a national title. The Tigers sit on the outside of the top ten with their national championship odds at +3000, and if recent memory suggests anything, that's a price bettors should be comfortable fading.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish continue to be a solid program but isn't on the level of Georgia or Ohio State. Riley Leonard is an interesting addition to this group as their starting quarterback, and he enters the year with +2000 Heisman odds, which have him hovering around the top ten. I'm not quite sure if Marcus Freeman is the coach that will lead them over the hump. For now, Notre Dame's +2500 national championship odds aren't in an area where they're worthy of considering.
LSU Tigers
There are reasons to get optimistic about the LSU Tigers in 2024, but we haven't fully bought into Brian Kelly's program. Garrett Nussmeier is an exciting quarterback prospect and a legitimate Heisman candidate at +1800, the sixth-shortest odds. The talent is there for Nussmeier to come in and find immediate success, yet I'm not entirely sold on the rest of this roster. Like Nussmeier, the Tigers also hold the sixth-shortest odds to win the natty at +1500. That price is too high for what we know about this Tigers team.
